Overview

Call all pregnant or new moms in Burnaby, New West or the tricities. Come share, learn, and connect for MotherFlock’s first summer session.

The MotherFlock Summer Series is bringing moms together for one-off discussion-based & resource-sharing by-donation workshops. For pregnant, or new moms who are 0-4 months postpartum, who want to learn, share, and support each other in community. The kind of chats that can really impact your postpartum experience.

Session 1: “Supported: Simple Strategies for Surviving Everyday Motherhood”

What to expect:

Gemma from The MotherFlock will facilitate a resource- and idea-sharing discussion, alongside postpartum doula Fabi Rodrigues from Fabi Rodrigues | Doula & Lactation Support, on practical strategies for surviving the everyday. We'll share hacks, tips, and advice on reducing the overwhelm, managing your household, utilizing supports, building confidence, and prioritizing yourself.

Educator Sarah Labou Learn Babywearing will provide a little babywearing 101 session, reviewing the different types of carriers, things to think about, and offer fit-checks

All to leave you feeling validated, supported, and empowered in your early motherhood journey.

It's so hard to find time to think and reflect on some of our needs, wants, and interests. Especially when society expects us to martyr ourselves and put ourselves last.

It's amazing how aligned this work is with my background. From years working in mental health and running groups, to curriculum development & program planning from teaching. And sometimes the teacher in me really comes out: Today we used visible thinking strategies to help us think about what our interests might be & how we might carve out time for them (even if it's just for a moment, amongst the chaos & distractions). We need it ❤️

It's picniiiiiiic season! 🥰☀️

So much action over the last month. From intimate Nest meet ups, field trips, and beautiful views, we're a couple of months into our official community membership, and it's been heart-warming to see people come together in community. What i'm noticing most? That the moms that show up and are a part of this community, are heart-centered, open, so supportive and REAL... whether you've just survived the 3rd blow out of the day, or the rambunctious toddler is running all over the joint, you are welcome here!

June is set to be the busiest month yet, and joining The Flock is a no-brainer if you're a new mom in Vancouver. From outdoor pool hangs, winery meet-ups, and going to cheer on Canada in the World Cup, what are you most excited about? 😍

It comes up often in our groups... the want to support partners through this transition, how to help them understand what it is we're going through, the resentment that builds when we feel like they don't... 😵‍💫🤯

Partners & support people are the closest witnesses to the emotional, physical, and identity shifts happening during matrescence, yet many say they feel unsure of what’s normal, what’s needed, or how to help. And from the birthing parent/moms’ point of view, even when we’re in the thick of it, it’s hard to explain to our people what we’re going through and how they can help. But, when partners learn a little more about what’s going on during the postpartum phase, and what matrescence actually is, support becomes more intentional, communication gets easier, and the whole family benefits. So this one is something to share with the partners…

We share some tips & advice on how best to support mom, as well as some IG accounts & podcasts to follow to help them deepen their understanding of postpartum & matrescence, and/or reflect on their transition to fatherhood. Because it's not a walk in the park for them either. Postnatal depression in dads is a thing too.

We're honoured to share a guest article from a new inspiring, Vancouver-based, community-led movement, .her.circle on our blog this month.

"In BC, nearly 1 in 4 women face challenges during the perinatal period.

Su***de is the leading cause of death in the first year postpartum"

If you've ever had any sort of mental health struggle postpartum, this one is going to hit home.
her.circle was launched by the friends and family of Jenna Dorman, a local mom who died of postpartum su***de. It should never have happened. We know postpartum care is not where it should be, and that waitlists to access mental health supports are WAY TOO LONG. In Her Circle are trying to change that by raising money to fund one year of weekly, drop-in postpartum peer support through

Community support shouldn’t feel out of reach. 💛

In a move that's been a long time coming, we’re opening up 2 free spots in each of our Langley, North Van, & Burnaby* postpartum groups (1-4 & 4-12 months PP), for moms who are low income, Indigenous, or solo parenting.

Because motherhood can feel isolating enough already… and every mom deserves support, connection, validation, and a space where she can exhale a little.

These groups are about honest conversations, community, matrescence, mental health, identity shifts, and finding yourself again alongside motherhood. (Plus coffee. Everyone needs coffee)

Unfortunately, our Vancouver groups aren’t eligible for these sponsored spots, as registration runs through the City of Vancouver - but if you’re hoping to attend a Vancouver location, check out the Leisure Access Program for potential financial support.

If you're eligible and interested in applying, check the link in bio (or DM me) for details 💛
