Pool water and contact lenses should never mix.

Water can make lenses swell and stick to the eye, potentially scratching the cornea and allowing harmful microorganisms to cause infection.

Remove your contacts before swimming or using a hot tub. If you experience pain, redness, light sensitivity or blurred vision afterward, contact your optometrist promptly.

Summer weather can be hard on dry eyes.

Heat, wind, air conditioning, smoke, and increased screen time can all disrupt your tear film and make symptoms like burning, watering, grittiness, and irritation feel worse.

If your eyes are bothering you more this season, do not simply wait for summer to end. A dry eye assessment can help identify what is causing your symptoms and determine the right treatment plan.

Book your dry eye assessment with Island EyeCare.

If you’re planning cataract surgery, don’t overlook dry eye.

Treating dry eye before your procedure helps optimize the eye’s surface, improve measurements, and support better surgical outcomes. Healthy eyes heal better.

Dry, irritated eyes are often a sign of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. That’s why we start with meibography to get a detailed look at your meibomian glands. Dr. Narang carefully assesses the structure and function of your glands and creates a treatment plan tailored specifically to your eyes.

From there, you begin a comprehensive treatment journey that may include Forma I, Lumecca I, and meibomian gland expression. This combination helps reduce inflammation, clear blocked glands, and restore healthier oil flow to improve tear film stability. Blockages can be linked to skin conditions, autoimmune disorders, hormonal changes, and more, so identifying the root cause is key!

While most people associate dilation with dark rooms and constriction with bright light, your pupils also respond to things like adrenaline, mental focus, and emotional reactions. It’s all controlled by your autonomic nervous system, meaning it happens automatically without you thinking about it.
Subtle changes in pupil size can even give eye doctors helpful information about your overall eye and neurological health during an exam.

Eyelash lifts and tints can enhance the look of your lashes, but it’s important to understand how they may affect your eye health. Because these treatments use chemicals close to the eyes, safety, proper technique, and your individual eye condition matter. If you have sensitive eyes or dry eye symptoms, it’s always a good idea to check with your eye care provider before booking your appointment.

Itchy, watery, or burning eyes are commonly misunderstood. While many assume these symptoms are due to allergies or eye strain, they are often linked to dry eye disease or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Identifying the underlying cause is the first step toward effective, long-term relief with appropriate treatment.
