⚠️ Heatwave Reminder ⚠️

Please be aware that we don’t have air conditioning at the centre - we do, however, have 4 wonderfully crafted fans made by staff yesterday! 😂

We’ve noticed some service users are still coming to group in jumpers and jeans. With temperatures expected to be very high, please be mindful of the weather and the risks that come with it.

🌞 Stay hydrated
👕 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
🧢 Bring a hat if possible
💦 Apply sun cream
😓 Be aware of signs of overheating such as headaches, dizziness, excessive sweating, fatigue, discomfort, and for some people, an increased risk of seizures.

Let’s all do our bit to stay cool and safe during this hot weather! ☀️🥤🥵

☀️ Heatwave Warning Reminder ☀️

With temperatures expected to reach over 30°C on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we want to remind everyone how important it is to stay safe in the heat.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but it can be especially difficult for some of our service users. High temperatures can increase the risk of:

💧 Dehydration
🤕 Headaches and dizziness
😓 Excessive sweating and discomfort
😴 Fatigue and lethargy
⚡ Increased risk of seizures for those who are vulnerable

We will be doing everything we can to keep everyone cool, comfortable and safe during this heatwave. Let’s all look out for one another and take extra care over the next few days. ❤️☀️

Whether you’re a dad, uncle, brother, grandad, carer, or someone who simply makes a positive difference in someone’s life, today we celebrate you.
Thank you for the love, support, guidance, laughter, and encouragement you give every day. You play such an important role in the lives of the people we support, and we are so grateful for everything you do.

The heat certainly isn’t stopping us! Everyone worked hard, had lots of fun, and gave it their all during today’s session. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Of course, knowing there were ice lollies waiting afterwards definitely helped keep everyone motivated! 🍦😋

🌟 A Big Thank You to The Glebe! 🌟

A huge thank you to everyone at the Glebe for inviting us along to your wonderful fundraiser day! 💙

We had a fantastic time enjoying all the activities on offer. There were plenty of delicious cakes 🍰, an exciting raffle 🎟️, and lots of laughs as we got the chance to throw wet sponges at some very good sports! 💦😂
It was lovely to spend time together, support such a great event, and be part of such a welcoming community. Thank you for having us – we thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to visit again! 😊

💙 Learning Disability Week – Real Voices, Real Stories 💙

Today we asked one of our wonderful service users about life with a learning disability, their hopes for the future, and what they would like people to understand.

When asked what they find difficult, they spoke honestly about managing money. They shared that having more opportunities to socialise, a full-time job, swimming, and greater independence would make life even better.

They are already incredibly independent in many ways, proudly telling us that they manage things like their morning routine and even going into the dentist by themselves. Looking ahead, they would love to be able to travel to work independently and continue building their road safety skills.

We also talked about being part of the community. Sadly, they shared that strangers can sometimes be unkind and treat them differently because of their disability. It’s an important reminder that inclusion starts with understanding, kindness, and respect.

When asked what disability means to them, their answer was inspiring:

✨ “I was born with it, but it doesn’t affect me. I’m special! I just carry on. I can party!” ✨

They are proud of being a talented singer, a hardworking person, and being brave when visiting the dentist.

Finally, we asked what message they would like to share with the public about learning disabilities. Their answer was simple but powerful:

🎵 “Carry on and keep dancing!” 🎵

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Your positivity, resilience, and determination remind us all of the importance of seeing the person, not the disability. 💙

🍽️ Homely meals are definitely needed sometimes! 🏡❤️

Yesterday’s menu was a proper comfort food favourite – sausages, creamy mashed potatoes and homemade Yorkshire puddings! 😋

There were definitely no leftovers, every last bit was enjoyed! Nothing beats sitting down together and enjoying a hearty home-cooked meal. 🍴✨

⚽️🏆 AERA SUPPORT VIRTUAL SPONSORED CHALLENGE! 🏆⚽️

From 24th–26th June, we’re taking on a huge challenge and we’d love your support!

Our goal is to complete a combined 168 miles – the equivalent journey between several local football clubs including Alfreton, Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield and Chesterfield! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️🚣

Every mile completed by our team, service users, staff and supporters will count towards our total. Whether it’s walking, jogging, running, cycling or rowing, every contribution helps us move closer to the finish line! 💙

💛 Why are we fundraising?
All donations will help us continue providing meaningful experiences, activities and opportunities for the people who attend Aera Support, including:

✨ Arts and crafts
✨ Sensory resources
✨ Swimming sessions
