When a plant is struggling we look at its environment - is the soil ok? Too much or too little water? The right amount of light? We don’t think the plant is wrong! We are exactly the same! Our environment, relationships, thoughts and feelings all impact our physical body - beneficially or detrimentally. In kinesiology we look at the whole picture, not just the symptom.

People get so stressed out about what is going on in the world and invariably it’s the stuff that has no impact on their day to day life. Just the media whipping us into a frenzy. I quite like observing it and getting on with making my life as simple as possible.

I think spiritual awareness fully kicked in for me some time round 2010/11 (might have been related to Ben Calder’s initial Embracing Your Shadow workshop…) but I became energy aware following a hugely enlightening session in 2007 where everything in my life suddenly made sense. And there’s no turning back. Realising how responsible you are for yourself; seeing the world in a different way; having to let others see the world their way (and being grateful that you don’t!). Since then I haven’t stopped peeling back the layers and meeting myself at each of those layers. I don’t have an end goal or destination in mind. Part of the fun is NOT knowing where I’m going. Why let my limited imagination impose restrictions on what is possible!

Are you on your path? Any path? Is there a path?! Let me know! Don’t let me be delulu on my own!

I always say if you feel like s**t, have a session. Let’s work through whatever is behind it. If you’re feeling great, have a session! That’s the time to build and move forward! Repair v maintenance. We service our cars and boilers. We are used to waiting until we are ill before we listen to/notice our bodies, patterns, thoughts. By then, our body has been struggling for a while. But TCM is based on prevention, maintaining a balanced state.

I don’t think there is anything more magical than trees. They can be vast and ancient. Adaptable. What exists beneath the ground, forming a communication network with the woods around them. They give us oxygen! They are life!! For years I walked in woods unable to understand how I felt completely different within minutes. My ability to identify different trees is about as good as identifying birds or dogs… (ā€˜it’s like a big Labrador/a small Labrador…’) but I bloody love the energy.

We often avoid something that makes us feel uncomfortable through distraction or detachment. The emotion or situation doesn’t disappear - it sits in the body. And the longer it remains there, the more deeply embedded it becomes and it will begin to influence our mental body - thoughts and behaviours - and our physical body - unexplained symptoms. The reason kids are so cool to work with is their stuff is often closer to the surface. Adults can have been pushing their s**t down for decades.

I’ve been dealing with a separation and moving into a new space and have had the pleasure of meeting lots of aspects of myself that I wasn’t consciously aware of - principally people pleasing and a fear of disappointing others. Standing up for myself and enforcing boundaries, saying ā€˜no’ and putting my needs first has caused me a lot of discomfort! (Was expecting to feel discomfort even typing ā€˜my needs first’ but it was ok!).

Fully sitting with my feelings, thoughts, years of conditioning has been part of the process, supported though my own work as a kinesiologist, but also having other therapists and friends who’ve been able to hold the most amazing space for me, reflect back and not be afraid to highlight stuff I didn’t really want to see.

Healing isn’t about letting go of what’s happened to us, moving on from it. It’s about accepting it, embodying it, realising it makes us who we are in this moment. It’s about using our experiences (good or bad is all subjective - it’s how we rate and quantify them) to help us grow and learn. Perhaps because I’m a therapist I’m able to see the value of every experience I go through as it means I have more to offer my clients. An easy life would teach me nothing - I’m (bizarrely) grateful for the s**t because it makes me better at my job!

If you want to know more or to see if my therapy work can help you, reach out. I wouldn’t have got through the last year as smoothly on my own.
