Celebrating Our Volunteers 💜

We are proud to support volunteers, many with lived or familial experience, who have gone on to become valued members of our workforce, helping us grow and strengthen our services.

Benjamin P initially joined us through the Pilot EDIR project in the Vale, through his dedication and hard work, he has successfully progressed into a role within our Peer Recovery and Aftercare Team.

Alex began her volunteering journey as a VAC Representative before moving into volunteering with CAVDAS. She has been an incredible support to our Homeless and Assertive Outreach (HAO) Team, with her contribution playing a key role in supporting the s*x work community, working alongside Safer Wales and contributing to the EDIR project. Through her dedication and passion, Alex has made a real difference within the communities we serve. More recently, she applied for a full-time role within the HAO Team and has successfully been appointed.

Benjamin B has supported CAVDAS in a range of volunteering roles, with much of his time dedicated to our fantastic Children and Young People (CYP) Team. He came into volunteering with a genuine passion for the work we do and the people we support. Volunteering played an important part in Benjamin’s journey, helping him rebuild confidence and develop his skills as he worked towards returning to employment. Through his commitment, Benjamin secured a role within the Vale Pilot EDIR project alongside Benjamin P. More recently, he has successfully interviewed for a role within the EUASP.

Will began his volunteering journey in the Vale, supporting our Harm Reduction Lead, Laura, with outreach work. He then went on to support the Cardiff Homeless and Assertive Outreach (HAO) Team, working alongside Peer Navigators to reach and support individuals within the community. Through his dedication and passion, Will successfully secured a full-time role as a Peer Navigator within the HAO Team. He is now playing a key role in expanding our reach and strengthening support for people within Cardiff’s homeless communities.

Meet Lloyd!

Lloyd is a valued member of our CAVDAS volunteering team, supporting behind the scenes in a vital non-front-facing role. He works closely with our Data Analyst Lead, helping to ensure that we are recording and reporting accurate data, as well as supporting the ongoing development of systems that help improve our services.

Not all volunteer roles at CAVDAS involve direct work with service users, but every role is just as important. Lloyd’s contribution plays a key part in helping us understand our impact, improve our delivery, and continue to grow as an organisation.

Meet Mitchell!

Mitchell is one of the newer members of our CAVDAS volunteering team, and we’re incredibly lucky to have him on board.

He is passionate about educating others on the harms and risks associated with chems*x communities, and is dedicated to ensuring harm reduction advice is accessible and shared widely across our communities.

Mitchell is currently using his lived experience to support the peer review of our chems*x training offer, helping to ensure the training is meaningful, up to date, and informative, while also challenging stigma and increasing understanding within our communities.

He is also passionate about developing a peer-led support group for individuals involved in the chems*x scene, with a focus on supporting recovery and encouraging positive culture change.

Thank you, Mitchell, for your passion, commitment, and the valuable contribution you bring to CAVDAS ❤

Meet Mel!

Mel is one of our original (“OG”) volunteers and has been part of the CAVDAS team since the very beginning. She initially started volunteering in the Vale, supporting the Adult Services team.

Mel now volunteers on Pine Ward alongside Miranda, co-delivering peer support groups for patients who are currently undergoing detox for substance use. This is an essential part of our volunteering offer, helping individuals understand what to expect upon discharge, what support is available to them in the community, and inspiring hope that recovery is achievable.

Mel is truly inspirational, and we thank her for her continued dedication and support at CAVDAS 🧡

Meet Miranda!

Miranda is one of our long-standing (“OG”) members of the CAVDAS volunteering team and has been instrumental in supporting peer-led groups across the Vale.

She is currently using her lived experience in a powerful way through her volunteering role at Pine Ward, where she delivers peer support groups to patients undergoing detox for substance use. This is a vital role, helping individuals understand what to expect when they leave Pine Ward and informing them about the support available within the community for their ongoing recovery journey.

Thank you, Miranda, for your incredible dedication and the difference you continue to make 💙
