The Richard Whitehead Foundation will support and inspire disabled people through sport

The Richard Whitehead Foundation is a small charity with big aspirations to create social change and use the power of sport for the benefit of disabled people. We believe in the impact of sport: the increased mental well-being; the confidence; the self-esteem; the social inclusion and employability which come from it. We want the disability community to be able to thrive and benefit from all these opportunities.

🏃‍♀️ Meet Priya, who is taking on the Robin Hood Half Marathon to support The Richard Whitehead Foundation.

As a swimming teacher, Priya sees first-hand the positive impact sport can have on disabled children, helping them build confidence, independence and a sense of belonging. That's why she's fundraising for a charity that empowers disabled people through sport and helps them achieve their goals.

Thank You Thursday 🌟

This week, we would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to The Mayor of Rushcliffe, Cllr John Cottee, and his wife Loraine, for hosting an incredible Charity Race Night and raffle last week in support of the Richard Whitehead Foundation.

The event was a fantastic success, raising an incredible £1,400. The funds raised will help us continue our mission of enabling more disabled people through the power of sport, physical activity and opportunity.

A huge thank you to John and Loraine for hosting such an amazing event and for all of their support throughout the year. 💙

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Charlotte 🌟

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating Charlotte, who joined the Richard Whitehead Foundation for a summer internship last year and has continued to support us as a volunteer at our events. After volunteering at the Robin Hood Half Marathon last year, she's returning once again to be part of the team this year.

Charlotte's journey is a fantastic example of how volunteering can help you develop new skills, meet inspiring people and feel more connected to your community.

Today, we're proud to be supporting 3 runners through our Supported Runner Project as they take on the challenge of the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run 🙌

The Supported Runner Project, supported by Nissan, is all about helping disabled people take part in events like these, with the support of trained volunteers known as support runners. From training support in the lead-up to race day assistance with pacing, guiding, hydration and motivation, they help make participation possible and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Every one of our runners and support runners is helping to break down barriers, champion inclusion, and show what's possible when people are given the right support to achieve their goals.

We're incredibly proud of everyone taking part today and will be cheering you on every step of the way! 💪🔥

One month on from London Marathon day, Eleanor and Lisa’s finish line moment is still one we won’t forget💙
