πŸ’œ Carers Week 2026 πŸ’œ

This week is Carers Week, a time to recognise and celebrate the incredible contribution unpaid carers make every day.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid support to a family member, friend, or neighbour who could not manage without their help due to illness, disability, mental health needs, or frailty.

If you are a carer, please remember that your health and wellbeing matter too.

As a practice, we encourage carers to let us know about their caring role so we can ensure they receive appropriate support, information, and access to services that may be available to them.

Thank you to all carers for the vital care, compassion, and support you provide every day.

🩡 Diabetes Week 2026 🩡

This week (8–14 June) we're supporting Diabetes Week and helping to raise awareness of diabetes and the impact it has on millions of people across the UK.

This year's theme is "Strike Out Stigma", highlighting the importance of challenging misconceptions and supporting people living with diabetes without judgement.

Do you know the symptoms of diabetes?

βœ” Increased thirst
βœ” Passing urine more often than usual
βœ” Feeling tired all the time
βœ” Unexplained weight loss
βœ” Blurred vision
βœ” Recurrent infections

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or think you may be at risk of developing diabetes, please contact the practice for advice.

For those already living with diabetes, regular reviews, eye screening, foot checks and blood tests are important to help you stay well and reduce the risk of complications.

Let's work together to improve understanding, encourage early diagnosis, and support everyone affected by diabetes.

🌍 World Environment Day 🌿

Today is World Environment Day – a reminder that the health of our environment plays an important role in our own health and wellbeing.

Cleaner air, access to green spaces, active travel, and reducing pollution can all have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.

Small changes can make a difference:
🚢 Walk or cycle when possible
🌳 Spend time outdoors and in nature
♻️ Reduce, reuse and recycle
🚭 Help keep our air clean by avoiding smoking

Together, we can support a healthier environment and a healthier community.

❀️ World Heart Rhythm Week ❀️

This week is World Heart Rhythm Week, a chance to raise awareness of heart rhythm conditions and the importance of knowing your pulse.

Occasional palpitations can be common, but if you experience a racing heartbeat, dizziness, breathlessness, chest discomfort, or episodes of feeling faint, it's important to seek medical advice.

Knowing what's normal for you can help you recognise when something isn't quite right.

If you have concerns about your heart rhythm or symptoms that are affecting your daily life, please contact the surgery for advice.

For urgent symptoms such as severe chest pain, collapse, or significant breathing difficulties, call 999 immediately.

πŸ“… Every Appointment Matters

In May 2026, a significant number of healthcare hours were lost due to missed appointments:

πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ GP – 9.1 hours
🩺 Nurse Practitioner – 6.5 hours
πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Nurse – 10.35 hours
πŸ’š Health Care Assistant – 6.2 hours

That's over 32 hours of valuable clinical time that could have been used to support patients who needed care.

When appointments are missed without notice, it affects more than just the scheduleβ€”it means longer waits for others and less time available for patient care.

If you can no longer attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Cancelling in advance allows us to offer that appointment to someone else and helps us make the best use of our healthcare resources.

Thank you for helping us care for our community and ensuring every appointment counts. πŸ’™
