Shoulder injury in rugby -
By placing rugby player Gary on our Kinvent Official force plates (K-Plates and K-Deltas), we transform subjective upper-body testing into high-precision, objective data tracking.
During the ASH test (prone isometric push at 'I', 'Y', and 'T' positions), the force plates capture his maximal voluntary isometric contraction and rate of force development (RFD) at long lever angles, isolating his shoulder girdleβs ability to generate rapid, high-lever force.
During the push-up force test (isometric, dynamic, or dynamic press-up variations), the dual plates measure how effectively he manages weight-bearing closed-kinetic-chain loads, revealing subtle left-to-right asymmetries and compensatory weight shifts.
This objective biofeedback directly dictates Garyβs rehabilitation programming and return-to-play timeline:
Informing Treatment: If the push-up test shows Gary is subtly shifting load away from his injured shoulder under bodyweight pressure, or if the ASH test reveals a lag in RFD in the 'Y' position, treatment shifts from basic strength to rate of force expression, end-range stability, and trunk-to-shoulder force transfer.
Determining Readiness to Play: Rather than guessing based on pain or range of motion, we measure Garyβs limb symmetry index (LSI). Achieving 90-95\% bilateral strength symmetryβalong with explosive rate of force development matching his uninjured shoulderβproves his joint can withstand the intense impact, tackling, and overhead collisions required in rugby without re-injury.
