Gym on the Square Your Personal Training Gym in Edinburgh's West End

“I’m quite happy to go to the gym a couple of times per week and that’s a big win for me!” ❤️

Moving from France 🇫🇷 to Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 , Anais joined GOTS in May 2024 looking to get stronger, feel more confident around weights and meet new people along the way.

She achieved all of the above AND more than two years later, she STILL consistently shows up for herself twice per week in Small Group PT sessions and enjoys our regular community events and socials!

That’s the difference between exercise feeling like a tedious chore and becoming an enjoyable, integrated part of your life.

Anais is stronger, more confident, no longer intimidated by the gym and a much-loved part of our community.

We’re so glad Gym on the Square has become such a big part of Anais’ life in Edinburgh, and we’re looking forward to many more years of strength, fitness, friendships and socials together! ❤️

Sometimes the gym IS for you - you just haven’t found one you click with yet.

On t’aime, Anais! 🇫🇷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💪🏼

Who’s in our Small Group PT gym community? 👋🏼

One of the things we love most about Gym on the Square is the great mix of members who train here in Edinburgh's West End

Different ages. Different experience levels. Different abilities. Different goals. Different backgrounds - some have lived in Edinburgh their whole lives, others have made the city home after moving here from different parts of the world.

But there’s plenty in common.

A shared desire to get stronger, feel fitter, move better and make strength training an enjoyable, consistent part of life - something many had struggled to do before finding us.

And there’s plenty to talk about beyond training too. Travel, food, Edinburgh life, work, family and everything in between.

Lots of stories shared between sets, conversations turn into friendships, and over time people who once walked through the door not knowing anyone become a real part of the community.

That’s one of the benefits of Small Group PT.

You still get the individual Coaching, adaptations and support you need, but you also get the buzz, conversation and connection that comes from training alongside other people in a small group.

Different people, plenty in common.🩷

Before most of Edinburgh is awake.. our Coaches are already at Gym on the Square. 🌅

A few weeks ago, valued member captured a little behind the scenes look at what members don’t usually get to see.

From 6am in , we’re welcoming members into Small Group Personal Training sessions, with just 2–4 people per Coach.

But long before that first session begins, there’s lots happening behind the scenes in preparation-

Opening up, cleaning the gym, setting up equipment, stocking our complimentary fresh fruit trolley and toiletry baskets, reading over any relevant member notes in advance and making sure everything is ready for members walking through the doors.

Our team put a huge amount of time and care into the little details before, during and after every session with the aim of making sure every single member leaves feeling 10x better than when they arrived. ❤️

Very grateful to have such an amazing team who go above and beyond to create a fitness experience like no other in Edinburgh City Centre.

When it rains, it pours.. ☔️ A dreich day in Edinburgh's West End

But come rain or shine, our members keep showing up to Small Group PT 1–3 times a week. 🏋🏻‍♂️🏋🏻‍♂️

Most of our members classed themselves as “not a gym person” before finding us.

Now, thanks to Coaching + Community in Edinburgh City Centre, they’ve learned how to make fitness (in particular strength training ) an integrated and enjoyable part of their week, and something they stick to long term.

If you don’t know what to do or how to do it, we’ve got a gym full of people who can relate to how that feels.

And a team of Coaches who would be delighted to take away any gymxiety by showing you what to do and how to do it! 🏋🏻‍♂️💪🏼

A special thanks from team member .foster_ 💪🏼⛰️ who completed Edinburgh 7 Hills Challenge on Friday for with , member .murrayy and Team .free - Collectively this challenge has raised 77K AND COUNTING for Cancer Research

We have gifted all participants a Small Group PT session as a well done for an amazing achievement.

As Micheala tell us - “strength training allows me to keep taking part in challenges like this”

7 Hills,
1 dreich day
AND an additional 10kg for our Micheala and Kim in military body armour - which, as Micheala put it,

“that’s nothing compared to the weight people battling cancer and their families endure.”

Despite the weather, the team soldiered on 🫡

1. Calton Hill
2. Castle Rock / Edinburgh Castle
3. Corstorphine Hill
4. Easter Craiglockhart Hill
5. Braid Hill
6. Blackford Hill
7. Arthur’s Seat

Starting and finishing at Calton Hill, with the other 6 acting as checkpoints. This was roughly 2,200 ft / 670 m of ascent and descent (all with the bonnie scottish weather to contend with ☔️⛰️)

A huge well done to every single participant who took part and helped raise such an incredible amount for an amazing cause.

Go team Swurf 💪🏼🩷

Ladies who lift 💪🏼 Well done Caroline on smashing your first session, welcomed by other strong GOTS Women🏋️‍♀️

We love to see it. We encourage it. And the more women we see doing it, the more women realise they can do it too.

Every strong woman inspires another. Representation matters.

Every woman in this photo strength trains 1-3 times per week. And you can too!

Outdated fitness marketing may have made many women believe that lifting weights was only for certain people or specific stereotypes.

It isn’t.

Strength training is important for all of us - for our bones, our muscles, our confidence and our independence (particularly as we age.)

This is exactly why Small Group Personal Training works so well.

We’ve created a welcoming, non-intimidating environment in Edinburgh city centre Edinburgh's West End where you receive personalised coaching while training alongside like-minded people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.

It’s a combination that has helped so many self-proclaimed “non-gym people” become people who now strength train consistently one, two or three times every week.

And a huge part of that is the warm welcome.

Thank you to all our Coaches and members who make GOTS such a great place to be, and for making newcomers feel so comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.

That welcome can be the difference between someone never coming back.. or returning week after week and discovering the ripple effect that feeling stronger and fitter can have on every part of life outside the gym.

The many friend, family and colleague referrals is proof we must be doing something right 🩷

Thankyou Maria Savage for inviting Caroline to give GOTS a go!

CHEERS to an enjoyable social life AND prioritising your health and fitness. 🥂💪 - yes you can do both! Our team and members do!

If you’re someone who has always struggled to stick to a consistent fitness routine - perhaps it’s because you go for an all or nothing approach which is unsustainable?

Our team and members enjoy visiting the many great restaurants and bars in and city centre - they are a sociable bunch who like to experience everything Edinburgh has to offer while consistently making their health and strength a priority.

The goal isn’t to put life on hold to get fitter. It’s to build a lifestyle where strength training has a place alongside the people, places and experiences you love.

That’s one of the biggest benefits of Small Group Personal Training.

Your sessions are already booked into your diary and you have a Coach expecting you, a small group of familiar faces training alongside you, and the accountability, support and encouragement that make it much easier to keep showing up.

A healthy lifestyle isn’t about avoiding every social occasion or striving for perfection. It’s about finding a balance you can maintain.🏋️💪🏼

Things most of us don’t do enough of but all of us should prioritise -

💪 Strength training
🧘‍♀️Stretching & Mobility

Our Coaches speak about both regularly at Gym on the Square -

- Everyday in Small Group PT sessions

- At our Friday Lunchtime Sweat & Stretch in Charlotte Square ☀️ (The last photo in this post shows how relaxing a good stretch can be 😂)

- At various wellness popup corporate events and run clubs across the city who share our mission to promote health and wellbeing in Edinburgh city centre!

(photographed wellness events - AMA , WeWork George Street, Up & Running Edinburgh, Alzheimer Scotland brainhealthscot ) 🙏

🏋️‍♀️ 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐬 𝐮𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞, 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠.

🧘‍♀️ 🚶🏻‍♀️ 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐲, 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

They both compliment eachother.

Too many of us in Edinburgh spend hours hunched over a desk everyday without strength training at all, moving enough in general, or ever stretching.

Then aches, pains and niggles become the norm. Don’t let these escalate into a bigger problem.

Moving well is just as important as getting stronger. The two really do go hand in hand!

If you need help with either - our team would be happy to support.

Book a trial session via our website. We would love to welcome you to a strength session and a stretch session.
