Huge congratulations and thanks to the team from Edinburgh Dental Specialists who took on the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon Festival Hairy Haggis Team Relay on Sunday, 24 May in support of Mindroom! šŸƒā€ā™€ļø

The EDS Sprinters, Chelsea, Suze, Bruce and Louise completed the 26.2-mile run in 4 hours 23 minutes.

So far, they have raised an amazing £780 for the charity.

The Team said, ā€œWe wanted to fundraise for Mindroom because there is still not enough support or awareness of neurodiversity. Many children and families face barriers when trying to access the help they need. By raising money, we can help provide better support, increase understanding, and work towards a world where no child or family feels excluded or unsupported.ā€

As Tourette’s Awareness Month begins, we’re looking back at one of the inspiring conversations from our 2023 ITAKOM (It Takes All Kinds of Minds) conference.

We were honoured to welcome keynote speaker Pelle Sandstrak (Mr Tourette), who shared his powerful lecture, ā€œFor the Sake of Unusualness. My Life with Tourette Syndrome.ā€

Drawing on his lived experience of Tourette’s and OCD, Pelle spoke about embracing individuality, challenging perceptions and finding strength in what makes us unique, a message that continues to inspire and resonate.

At Mindroom, we champion all kinds of minds, and sharing stories and perspectives like these is an important part of building understanding and inclusion.

This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week 🧠

For neurodivergent children, young people and adults, mental health can be shaped by a range of factors, including the environment they move through and the expectations placed on them. Needless to say, access to the right support can make a HUGE difference. Classrooms that don't quite fit, workplaces where individuals feel misunderstood... There's a need for both big change, and small, real-life moments where people can find the space to be themselves, without judgement.

At Mindroom, we believe that understanding neurodiversity is key to supporting positive mental health. Creating inclusive, flexible and supportive environments benefits not only neurodivergent individuals, but everyone.

Let’s continue the conversation around mental health and inclusion. Find out more about our mission and how to get involved at www.mindroom.org.

Mindroom is proud to partner with the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre at The University of Edinburgh āœļø

Together, we work to deepen understanding of neurodiversity and apply this knowledge to design, deliver and evaluate approaches that enable people to thrive.

Our collaborative work includes projects such as the Neurodivergent peer Support Toolkit (NEST), research into neurodiversity and mental health in schools, and studies exploring the links between sleep and mood in autistic adolescents.

By connecting research with practice, we can continue to improve support for neurodivergent children, young people and adults.

Supporting a neurodivergent child can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when navigating assessments, education systems and wider services.

Our Parent and Carer Services provide tailored guidance, practical advice and a listening ear to help families feel more confident and informed.

We understand that every family’s journey is different. That’s why our support is shaped around individual needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
