Thatās the mistake I made a couple years ago after being sent for a scan and hearing nothing back, I assumed that they would get in touch if they found anything and if I didnāt hear anything everything was ok.
Wrong, but I didnāt find this out til over a year later when I was back at the doctor and they mentioned my adenomyosis - news to me, sorry my what? What is that?
A quick explanation and reassurance that I was already prescribed the most suitable medication, tranexamic acid, which was controlling my symptoms at the time which were predominantly mega heavy periods so I didnāt think too much of itā¦.
Wrong again, over the last year those symptoms became constant period like pain throughout most of the month to some degree, heavy dragging and pelvic pressure, shooting pains, fatigue, increased bleeding despite the meds, to the point where Iāve had to give up parts of my work and the way that I train, affected family life and my energy for the kids.
A repeated scan a few months back showed that the condition had in fact progressed considerably with my uterus becoming enlarged, bulky with irreversible structural changes, only then was it suggested to me that hormonal treatment could help with delaying further progression - kind of bolting the door once the horse has ran no?
I wish I could go back and phone for that initial scan report, then take the time to do my own research and discover that there may have been options then that couldāve prevented things from getting to this stage.
Just wanted to share because I know lots of other people think similarly- no news is good news - Iāll not pester them with phoning surely Iād have heard if thereās something wrong š¤·āāļø
Now Iāll tell any woman if something isnāt right keep pushing, donāt sit on it, donāt be fobbed off, phone for those results, chase things up.
Day 1 post hysterectomy feeling blessed but also frustrated that there might have been another option, Iām lucky, Iād already had the children I wanted, but for many women this is an added heartbreak when conditions like this go without the attention they should ā¤ļø
