The cast got an upgrade & I'm out of elevation prison!
2 weeks of strict laying down elevation for 23 hours a day, completed.

Today- Stitches are out, wound checked and vacoped boot on, still non weightbaring for 2 more weeks and ankle locked into 45 degrees of plantarflexion.

After that, every two weeks, for 8 weeks the boot angle will change to allow more movement in the Achilles until gradually it's at neutral. Not going to lie, the thought of moving it in two weeks makes my whole body feel weird 🤢

I won't be in my own trainers until the beginning of November 😳😬

I was going to do a video update as a lot of friends have been asking how I am and what the process looks like but I can't talk about it at the moment because I might be sick 🤣

The boot is....... Heavy! It's a bit painful but it's ok and I'll get used to it. The boys have named it a robot leg 🤣🤖

I'm excited to get back on the mobility scooter and get outside, see some people and get some fresh air.

It's been a rough 2 weeks inside, a lot of time on my own as kids still need to go out and enjoy themselves. I'm sad to have missed half their school holidays and missed out on 2 weekends away and days out. Thank you to my friends and family who have checked in on me during my lockdown 🤣 and especially to Kerrianne for being my unpaid carer ha. I've managed to train Ezra to be a good helper but Elliot needs a bit more training and bribery.

8 weeks until the real rehab starts 🤯

🩸BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION TRAINING
With my left leg rapidly losing muscle and strength by the day (it's about 1% a day) while non weightbaring it got me looking into BFRT for increasing speed on recovery and healing but also maximising the amount of strength and muscle retention while I will be on a few weeks of very low loading.

Does anyone have any experience with this or tried it out themselves?

❓ Why it can help during recovery from injury rehabbing with lower loads :

🔴BFR can produce some of the adaptations you'd normally get from heavier resistance training:

🔴Maintains or increases muscle size despite using low loads.

🔴Helps reduce muscle wasting when an injured limb can't be loaded normally.

🔴Can improve strength, particularly when heavy loading isn't currently appropriate.

🔴Creates a strong metabolic stimulus with relatively low mechanical stress on the healing tissue.

🔴May help you transition back towards conventional strength training.

Definitely an interesting approach that needs serious consideration when the time is right

After an injury, it’s common to experience pain, inflammation, and limited mobility. Many of us reach for painkillers or push through it, trying to carry on with our busy lives. But unfortunately, this often leaves the injury untreated and vulnerable to recurring problems, leading to even more dis...

Lucie's Surgery done ✅ constant strict elevation for 2 weeks.
The repair was good however... complicated 😬
Surgery took double time.
The 2 tendon ends were frayed badly and it was described as trying to stitch two paintbrushes together 🤦🫠
I now have to be even more careful over the next few weeks to ensure good healing.

Staying over in Hotel YDH tonight.
Thanks for your messages of good luck. Hopefully some of that luck reaches me soon 🤞🤞

When your apprentice physio insists on being paid in Lamborghinis… 😂🏎️

My latest rehab specialist is 7 years old, has questionable clinical reasoning, and apparently charges exclusively in supercars. 😂

He’s been teaching Mum how to use crutches— clearly taking his apprenticeship VERY seriously. 🩼

Apprentice physio of the year? I think so. 😂❤️

Lamborghini payments accepted for his services only. 🏎️💰

A little clinic update from Lucie❤️

Unfortunately, I've had a bit of an accident playing football and have ruptured my Achilles! 😩 I’m currently in a cast and awaiting further assessment, so I’ll be taking some time away from hands-on treatment while I recover.

I’m absolutely gutted to be temporarily out of action, but thankfully the clinic will still be running as normal for the rest of our lovely therapists. Unfortunately that means all of my appointments are cancelled for the next 2 weeks and most probably in the weeks ahead. Kate has some availability but she also has her own clients so this will unfortunately mean most people won't be able to be seen for a while. I will be able to do advice and assessment only telephone/zoom appointments soon.

I’ll be in touch with anyone who has upcoming appointments and will keep you all updated on my recovery.

Fingers crossed I’ll be back on my feet before too long! 🤞🏼❤️
