💜 June is Age Without Apology Month 💜

At Every Care at Home Ltd, we believe ageing is something to celebrate, not apologise for.

This month, we’re honouring the wisdom, resilience, achievements and life stories of older adults throughout Harbury and the surrounding communities. Every wrinkle tells a story, every memory holds value, and every stage of life deserves respect and dignity.

We are proud to support older people to remain independent in the comfort of their own homes, living life on their terms with confidence, purpose and joy.

Let’s celebrate every chapter, every achievement and every beautiful story that comes with age.

💜 Age with confidence.
💜 Live with purpose.
💜 Age without apology.

☀️🌡️ Warm Weather Alert for Next Week – Let’s Keep Our Loved Ones Safe 🌡️☀️

The forecast for next week in Harbury and the surrounding areas is showing a big jump in temperatures, with highs reaching up to 30°C by Sunday and staying very warm throughout the week. While many of us enjoy the sunshine, hot weather can be especially challenging for older adults. 💛

Here are a few important ways we can help keep elderly family members, neighbours, and clients safe during the heat:

💧 Encourage regular drinks – even if they don’t feel thirsty
🏠 Keep homes cool by closing curtains during the hottest part of the day
👕 Wear light, comfortable clothing
☀️ Avoid going out during peak afternoon heat
📞 Check in regularly with elderly relatives or neighbours
🍓 Eat light meals and keep hydrated with fruits and water-rich foods

⚠️ Signs & Symptoms of Dehydration to Look Out For ⚠️

Dehydration can happen quickly in warmer weather, especially in older adults. Keep an eye out for:

🔹 Dry mouth or lips
🔹 Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
🔹 Increased confusion or unusual tiredness
🔹 Dark yellow urine or reduced trips to the toilet
🔹 Headaches
🔹 Sunken eyes or dry skin
🔹 Loss of appetite

🚨 If someone appears unwell, confused, or extremely drowsy, it’s important to seek medical advice promptly.

Our carers are always on hand to support with hydration, wellbeing checks, meal preparation, companionship, and ensuring our clients stay safe and comfortable during warmer weather. ❤️

A simple phone call or visit can make a huge difference to someone vulnerable this summer.

Stay safe, stay cool, and look out for one another. 🌞🤝

We’re really proud of our team 💙

Over the last few months, some of our carers have taken on extra Champion roles in areas such as Dementia, Loneliness, Medication, and Fluid & Nutrition.

These roles are all about helping us give even better support to our clients day to day - whether that’s spotting when someone may not be eating or drinking enough, helping clients feel less isolated, supporting safe medication routines, or understanding the little things that can make a huge difference to someone living with dementia.

A big part of being a Champion is also researching new information, guidance, and ideas, then sharing this with the wider team and our clients through our monthly newsletter and team meeting.
We want to make sure important information doesn’t just get found - it gets passed on, talked about, and put into practice.

Care is about people, and we never stop learning how to do things better.

Seeing our team so passionate about improving the lives of the people we support makes us incredibly proud 💙

Mental Health Awareness Month is an important reminder that looking after our mental wellbeing matters just as much as our physical health.

In care, we see every day how important it is to have support around you, someone to listen, and to feel valued. That’s why we make it a priority to support both our carers and clients in any way we can.

We regularly check in with our carers through supervisions, one-to-one chats and anonymous surveys to make sure they feel heard and supported. We also really value feedback from both our carers and clients, as it helps us understand what we’re doing well and where we can improve.

We know caring for others can sometimes be emotionally challenging, which is why we also offer additional support, including counselling for carers whenever needed.

Creating a caring and supportive environment will always be important to us because people come first, always 💙

🌞 Managing Heat Safely for Older Adults in Care at Home Settings

As temperatures rise, it’s crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of your loved ones and the client in our care. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heatstroke. Below are essential guidelines and resources to help manage heat effectively.

🏡 Creating a Cool Environment
• Monitor Indoor Temperatures: Use thermometers to ensure indoor temperatures remain below 26°C.
• Ventilation: Open windows during cooler parts of the day (e.g., early morning or late evening) to promote airflow.
• Shading: Close curtains or blinds in sun-exposed rooms to keep them cool.
• Cool Areas: Designate a room or area that remains below 26°C where individuals can rest comfortably.

💧 Preventing Dehydration
• Encourage Fluid Intake: Offer water regularly, even if the individual doesn’t feel thirsty.
• Hydrating Foods: Serve meals with high water content, such as salads and fruits.
• Offer Alternatives: Offer ice pops, ice-creams, fruit juices, sports drinks & watermelon.

🌡️ Recognizing Heat-Related Illnesses

Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:
• Tiredness, dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, and muscle cramps.
Heatstroke Symptoms:
• High body temperature, hot and dry skin, rapid pulse, confusion, and loss of consciousness.

Immediate Actions:
• Move the individual to a cooler place.
• Remove unnecessary clothing.
• Offer cool fluids.
• Apply cool compresses to the skin.
• Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms persist or worsen.

👕 Appropriate Clothing and Personal Care
• Clothing: Dress in lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
• Personal Hygiene: Encourage cool showers or baths to help regulate body temperature.
