đŸ„Š WELCOME ON BOARD, CRAIG! đŸ’Ș

Great to have Craig joining me for PT & Strength and Conditioning coaching.

Craig has previously trained at Allegiance MMA, so he’s no stranger to hard work and putting the hours in. Now we’re looking to build on that foundation, get him stronger, fitter and performing at his best.

Looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together and getting stuck into the work. đŸ”„

Welcome to the team, Craig — let’s get started! 👊

REST DAYS ≠ SITTING ON THE SOFA

Rest and active recovery often get confused.

If you train regularly — lifting, conditioning, sparring or doing martial arts — you don’t necessarily need to do absolutely nothing on your rest day.

Sometimes your body just needs less intensity, not zero movement.

Active recovery could be:

🐕 Taking the dog for a walk
đŸš¶â€â™‚ïž Getting your steps in
đŸ§˜â€â™‚ïž Some mobility work
đŸšŽâ€â™‚ïž Easy cardio
đŸ„Š Light technical work

Motion is lotion.

The aim isn’t to smash another session. It’s to move, get some blood flowing and help your body recover without adding more fatigue.

And don’t underestimate what one day of active recovery can do.

You might feel better going into your next session, move better, perform better and get more out of the sessions that follow.

Sometimes doing less today means you can do more tomorrow.

Recovery isn’t a wasted day.

It’s part of the programme.

đŸ”„ BOX JUMPS

Box jumps are a simple but effective exercise for developing power, strength and athleticism.

They work the lower body while also challenging your coordination, balance and ability to produce force quickly.

✅ Benefits:
‱ Develops explosive leg power
‱ Strengthens the glutes, quads and calves
‱ Improves coordination and balance
‱ Helps with speed, agility and body control
‱ Supports athletic performance
‱ Can improve functional movement for everyday life

For sports like kickboxing and MMA, that explosive power can contribute to quicker footwork, movement and more powerful actions.

The benefits also carry over into everyday life, helping you move with more strength, stability and confidence.

💡 Key tip: Focus on quality reps, a powerful take-off and a soft, controlled landing. You don’t need the highest box — you need good movement.

Simple exercise. Big benefits. đŸ’„

Static stretching is not the answer to everything.

I see this a lot with athletes trying to achieve things like higher head kicks, deeper squats or a better clean & jerk. They stretch more, gain a little flexibility, but still can’t actually control the position when it matters.

That’s because flexibility is only one piece of the puzzle.

You need the mobility to control the movement, strength through the range of motion, stability to own the position, and specificity to actually transfer it to what you’re trying to do.

And this applies far beyond athletes. Whether your goal is to kick higher, lift better, or simply walk pain-free, your body needs to be able to produce and control movement — not just get into a position passively.

Another thing I see constantly is postural and agonist/antagonist imbalance.

If certain muscles are doing too much while others aren’t contributing enough, your body will find ways to compensate. You might perform a compound movement that looks completely fine from the outside, while underneath the surface you’re shifting weight, avoiding certain ranges or relying on stronger muscles to do the work.

This is also why completely ignoring isolation work can sometimes be a mistake.

Compound movements are fantastic, but they can also mask weak links. If a muscle isn’t strong enough or isn’t contributing properly, your body will often find another way to complete the movement.

So instead of simply asking, “How flexible am I?”

Ask:

Can I control that range?
Can I produce strength there?
Can I stabilise it?
Can I use it in the movement I actually care about?

The goal isn’t just to move further.

The goal is to move better.

WHY THE WORD PERFORMANCE?

I deliberately chose the word Performance.

Not PT.
Not S&C.
Not Movement Coach.
Not Transformation Coach.

Because performance can mean so many different things.

I’ve worked with everyone from the general population to professional athletes, and I’ve found that performance is personal.

It could mean reducing pain, improving movement quality, learning a new skill, getting stronger or fitter, or simply having more energy.

It could be being able to walk to the shop without pain or fatigue.

Or it could mean competing in sport and performing at an elite level.

You don’t have to be an elite athlete. The principles are scalable and the approach should change depending on the person, their goals and what they need their body to do.

And I don’t think you have to choose between looking good and performing well. Building a physique you’re happy with can happen alongside becoming stronger, fitter, more mobile and more capable.

I have the qualifications — Level 2 Gym Instructor, Level 3 PT, Level 4 S&C, Kettlebell Instructor and Olympic Weightlifting — but the biggest part of my education has been 10+ years of coaching experience.

After all that time, I’ve found my passion.

Performance.

And helping people achieve their version of it.

Dumbbell Bench Press đŸ’Ș

The dumbbell bench press is a great example of how you can build strength and muscle while also developing stability and control.

Unlike a barbell, each arm has to control its own weight. This means your shoulders, chest and triceps still have to produce force, while your stabilising muscles work to keep everything controlled.

That combination makes dumbbells a useful tool for building balanced strength and muscle, while developing the stability needed to control force effectively.

And that matters beyond the gym.

Whether you’re playing sport, training martial arts or simply moving through everyday life, being able to produce and control force is important.

Building strength and stability over time can also help you manage injury risk by improving your ability to control movement under load.

So don’t just chase the biggest number you can press.

Build strength. Build muscle. Build stability. Build a body that’s capable.

You’re training hard. So why aren’t you progressing?

I see this a lot with men who want to get in better shape, get stronger and maybe get into martial arts too.

You might be in the gym a few times a week.

Maybe you’ve started boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ or MMA.

You’re putting the effort in — but you’re not seeing the changes you want.

Your physique hasn’t changed much.
You’re not getting noticeably stronger.
Your fitness isn’t where you want it to be.

The problem usually isn’t that you’re not working hard enough.

It’s that you don’t have a clear plan.

You don’t need to train 6 days a week or follow complicated workouts.

You need training that fits around your life and helps you make progress.

Build muscle.
Lose body fat.
Get stronger.
Improve your fitness.
Learn martial arts.
Build confidence.

Training shouldn’t just make you tired. It should make you better.

If you know you want to improve but you’re not sure how to get there, that’s where I can help.

What’s your why? When people tell me why they want to train, the first answer is usually

What’s your why?

When people tell me why they want to train, the first answer is usually

“I want to lose weight.”

“I want to get stronger.”

“I want to get fitter.”

“I want to improve at my sport.”

But those are goals.

They’re not your why.

Your why is what sits beneath them.

Maybe it’s to improve your health.

Maybe it’s to have the energy to run around with your children.

Maybe it’s to perform better in your chosen sport.

Maybe it’s to feel more confident in yourself.

Or maybe it’s simply to become stronger, more capable and more resilient for whatever life throws your way.

When your training has a deeper purpose, it stops feeling like something you have to do.

It becomes something you choose to do.

At Allegiance, we don’t just train to look better.

We train to move better, perform better, feel better, and become the strongest version of ourselves—whatever that means to you.

Because when you know why you’re training, staying consistent becomes so much easier.

What’s your why?

Why my training week runs Sunday to Sunday 📅đŸ’Ș

My own programme runs Sunday to Sunday because it fits my schedule, my lifestyle, and allows me to train consistently around my commitments.

But the bigger lesson here is something I apply with every client:

A programme should be built around the individual.

Everyone has different work patterns, social commitments, energy levels, and responsibilities. A plan that works perfectly for one person might be unrealistic for another.

If someone’s programme doesn’t fit their lifestyle, missed sessions become more likely — not because they lack motivation, but because the structure isn’t realistic.

Good coaching is about finding the right balance between what someone needs to do and what they can consistently execute.

The best programme is the one that fits the person following it. đŸ”„

A New Chapter. Built on Over a Decade of Coaching.

After more than 10 years of coaching, learning and developing, it’s time to take the next step.

Today, I’m proud to introduce Allegiance Performance.

Allegiance has always meant something to me. It was first built through my dad’s passion for coaching and martial arts, and the values that came from that environment — discipline, respect, hard work and community — have stayed with me throughout my own journey.

Over the last decade, I’ve been fortunate enough to coach people from all walks of life. From complete beginners taking their first steps into training, to athletes and martial artists looking to improve their performance. Every person I’ve worked with has helped shape the coach I am today.

My background in martial arts and strength & conditioning has taught me that progress isn’t built overnight. It comes from consistency, accountability and showing up even when it’s difficult. Those principles now form the foundation of everything I do.

Allegiance Performance brings everything I’ve learned over the years into one coaching philosophy.

It’s about more than workouts or chasing numbers.

It’s about helping people become stronger, fitter and more capable through expert coaching, structured training and a community that supports one another.

I believe in training with purpose — building strength, improving movement and developing athleticism that carries over into everyday life. Whether you’re experienced, completely new to training, looking to improve your fitness, learn a new skill or simply feel better in your day-to-day life, Allegiance is built to help you progress at your own level.

Because training isn’t just about how you look. It’s about what you can do, how you move and how you feel.

Train for life. Build strength. Become more capable.

Built on discipline. Driven by progress.

To everyone who has supported me over the years — clients, training partners, friends and family — thank you. Your trust has allowed me to keep growing, learning and building towards this vision.
