Meet Yogna. Yogna’s St Gemma’s journey began as a volunteer at our West Park charity shop, and she’s since joined our retail team as Bank Deputy Shop Manager.

Recently, she took part in a tour of the Hospice, giving her the opportunity to see the Hospice itself and understand more deeply where the money raised through our shops goes and the difference it makes to patients and their families.

“What I found most interesting was learning about the different aspects of the care and support provided by St Gemma’s. It made me realise even more how much work goes on behind the scenes and how every person who contributes, whether through volunteering, working in the shops, fundraising, donating or shopping. It all plays an important part in making that care possible.

"The tour was also quite emotional and really made me feel proud to be part of the St Gemma’s family. It reminded me that what we do in the shops has a real and meaningful purpose.

"It gives you a completely different perspective and helps you see the impact of your contribution.”

Yogna’s experience is a lovely reminder that every one of our volunteers is part of something much bigger. Whether you’re welcoming customers in a shop, sorting donations, helping behind the scenes or supporting one of our many other volunteer roles, you’re helping make St Gemma's care possible 💜

We’ve had lots of lovely people through the doors of our Supporter Hub since it opened, and this month we welcomed our 1,000th donor!

The Hub hasn’t even been open for a year yet, so it’s a lovely milestone for the team. The Supporter Hub is a place where our supporters can pop in, drop off donations, have a chat with the team, ask questions or simply say hello.

Every day brings new faces and new conversations, and we love having the chance to meet the people behind the incredible support St Gemma’s receives.

If you haven’t visited our Supporter Hub yet, we’d love to see you. Come in and say hello! You'll find us just off the main Hospice reception.

And a big thank you to our 1,000th donor, and to every person who has visited, donated or supported St Gemma’s along the way 💜

Our kitchen and Bistro teams do so much more than serve food. They help make St Gemma’s feel welcoming, caring and like home 💜

From a favourite meal or a cup of tea at just the right moment, to a snack when someone feels up to eating or a cake for a special celebration, these little things can make a real difference.

Our chefs work closely with patients and clinical colleagues to understand individual needs and preferences, while the Bistro team helps make families, visitors and colleagues feel welcome too.

As Chef Mark says: “Patients can ask for whatever they fancy, which is so important when you don’t feel well.”

Thank you to our wonderful kitchen and Bistro teams for everything you do to make St Gemma’s feel like home 💜

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers Brenda and Keith, who were back out in the community with another of their brilliant tombolas 💜

This time, they joined the Family Fun Day at Pendas Arms and raised an amazing £406 for St Gemma’s Hospice.

And the generosity didn’t stop there. Pendas Arms also donated half of their event takings, giving us an incredible additional £290.43.

That’s £696.43 raised altogether, which could help fund things like specialist bereavement support for someone struggling with the loss of a loved one, or a community nurse or doctor visiting a patient in their own home.

Thank you to Brenda and Keith for all their hard work, and to everyone at Pendas Arms and everyone who took part for supporting St Gemma’s 💜

P.S. Brenda and Keith's next tombola will be at Templenewsam Artisan Fair on Sunday 5th September. They'd love to see you there!
