My uncle passed away recently, and we had lost touch many years ago after my nan died.
He was brilliant, eccentric and completely off the wall. I remember him from my childhood in paint-daubed clothes, with a cigarette never far from his hand. My sister and I would scream with laughter as he tried to kiss us with his enormous beard. 🤣
My sister and I have inherited his long-forgotten paintings, which are currently in storage. We’ve yet to see them, but I’m already fascinated by the thought of finally discovering this part of his life.
He studied at art school in London before going on to study in Washington and Seattle, where he became a well-known artist, and his paintings hang in galleries there.
As a child, he was simply my bonkers, eccentric uncle. As an adult, I find myself wishing I’d had the chance to know him better and understand the man behind the beard, paint and ci******es.
I don’t want his work or his story to disappear. I hope we can bring his paintings back into the light and, in some small way, make sure his legacy lives on.
