A significant step forward for PMDD research.

Researchers from the University of the West of Scotland, alongside collaborators from several institutions and organisations, have developed the first PMDD-specific Integrated Motivational-Volitional (IMV-PMDD) model.

In simple terms, it’s a framework designed to help healthcare professionals and researchers better understand how PMDD-related distress can contribute to suicidal thoughts and behaviours, and where interventions may be most effective.

Importantly, the model incorporates experiences that many people in our community have been describing for years, including rapid mood changes, rejection sensitivity, feeling dismissed, emotional exhaustion and feeling trapped by a cycle that keeps returning.

This work won’t fix the gaps in PMDD care overnight, but it represents another important step towards better understanding, better support and ultimately, saving lives.
