After approaching a local newspaper, the journalist decided not to run my story… so I thought I’d publish it myself instead 😆

Holly is 15 and preparing to take her GCSEs next year. Although the decision will always be hers, I would love her to consider following me into nursing.

Nursing has given me so much more than a career. It has taught me about the human body, prevention and the importance of looking after our health before something goes wrong. It has also taught me compassion, empathy, kindness and what it truly means to serve others.

More than anything, I want Holly to understand that the decisions she makes now can help shape the health she experiences in later life.

We often talk about lifespan, but I believe the future is about healthspan. It is not simply about how many years we live, but how many of those years we remain healthy, active, independent and able to enjoy our lives.

That is why I keep coming back to one question:

🔮Are we living today in a way that our future selves will thank us for?

This thinking is also shaping the future of Cara Aesthetics. My focus is expanding beyond how we look on the outside to include skin health, wellness and healthy ageing.

What if you could actually MEASURE your antioxidant status?

We hear a lot about antioxidants, oxidative stress and healthy ageing, but until recently, most of us had no simple way of knowing what our own antioxidant status looked like.

That’s why I’m so excited about PRYSM iO 🤗.

In just 15 seconds, this clever little device measures the level of carotenoids in your skin.

But what exactly are carotenoids? 🤔

They’re powerful dietary antioxidants found predominantly in colourful fruits and vegetables. 🥕🥦🍅🫐

And they matter because every day our bodies are exposed to oxidative stress. This happens when there is an imbalance between free radicals and our antioxidant defences.

Over time, oxidative stress can contribute to cellular damage and is associated with ageing and the development of many chronic diseases.
