“Morning stiffness. Afternoon fog. Recovery that takes days, not hours. Your omega-6:3 ratio might be why.”
There's a number in your bloodstream right now that quietly shapes how much pain you're in, how well you sleep, and how fast you recover from a hard week — and almost nobody has ever measured it.
If you've been feeling stiff for the first hour after waking, hitting a wall by mid-afternoon no matter how much sleep you got, taking days instead of hours to recover after training, or just feeling a bit foggier and slower than you used to — none of that has to mean something's wrong with you specifically. It might just mean your cells are running in a low-grade inflammatory state.
It's the ratio between two types of fat: omega-6 and omega-3. Every cell membrane in your body is built from a blend of the two, and that blend decides whether your baseline state leans pro-inflammatory or calm.
The target ratio researchers point to is around 3:1. The average modern Western diet — processed oils, grain-fed meat, ultra-processed food — sits closer to 15:1 or higher.
Most people have no idea which end of that scale they're on. Your GP won't routinely test it. It doesn't show up on a standard blood panel.
This week I'm going to show you exactly what happened when I tested mine — and it wasn't what I expected.
