Cryotherapy doesn't just make you cold. Here's what's actually going on.
The cold is the trigger, not the treatment.
At around −87°C, your blood vessels constrict and blood moves toward the core. Your body is doing exactly what it's designed to do — protecting your temperature.
Step out, and those vessels open back up. Blood rushes back out to your limbs, carrying fresh oxygen into tissue that's just been cleared of the waste products sitting there from training.
At the same time, the chemical signals driving post-training inflammation and that deep muscle soreness you feel 24 hours later are significantly reduced.
This is why timing matters. The window of 12–24 hours after a hard session is when inflammation is most active — and when this has the most impact.
Cryotherapy is one of three elements in Discover Recovery, our introduction session. The other two follow later this week.

Most people treat recovery as the gap between sessions. It isn't a gap. It's the work.

The training session applies the stimulus. The recovery window is where the body responds — repair, adaptation, the actual change.

Most people leave that window to chance.

This month, we're opening up the Hanbury recovery suite — the mechanisms, the modalities, and who benefits most from a structured approach.

Swipe through. It starts here.

If you’ve been reading along this week and wondering whether Hanbury might be right for you — the starting point is an initial assessment.

It’s not a sales conversation. It’s a proper look at what’s actually happening — your movement, your history, the things that have and haven’t worked, and what a plan built around your specific picture might look like.

From there, you’ll have a clear sense of what makes sense as a next step. Sometimes that’s physiotherapy. Sometimes it’s a structured Reformer programme. Sometimes it’s a combination — or it’s something else entirely, and we’ll tell you that too.

The assessment takes an hour. You leave with a clearer picture of your body than most people ever get from a single appointment.

If that sounds like what’s been missing — link in bio.

When a client sees a physiotherapist at one place, a Pilates instructor at another, and books into a recovery session somewhere else — each of those people is doing their best.

But they’re doing it without knowing what the others know.

The physio doesn’t know what the Pilates teacher has noticed about how the client loads their left hip. The Pilates teacher doesn’t know what the physio found in the assessment. Nobody has a complete picture — so nobody can make a complete plan.

At Hanbury, the experts share a picture.

Assessment findings are visible across the team. If something shows up in a physiotherapy session that’s relevant to someone’s Reformer work, that gets communicated. If the recovery prescription needs to change based on training load, it changes.

It sounds obvious. It’s surprisingly rare.

That coordination is the reason the approach works differently. Not because any individual here is doing something another physio or Pilates teacher couldn’t — but because the information flows in a way that lets everything connect.

If you’ve been managing the same problem for six months, that’s not a normal part of recovery. It means something in the approach hasn’t addressed the right thing yet.

Most people accept a level of ongoing discomfort because nobody’s told them it should have resolved by now. The back that’s been “a bit dodgy” for two years. The knee that flares up every time training gets serious. The hip that’s been “being managed.”

Managing isn’t the same as resolving.

The difference, most of the time, isn’t effort. It’s whether the plan has actually identified what’s driving the pattern — or whether it’s treating the symptom when it’s loud and hoping for the best in between.

At Hanbury, we start with an assessment that looks at the full picture. Not just the presenting problem, but the load, the movement patterns, the contributing factors that don’t announce themselves.

That’s usually where the answer is.

If something has been lingering longer than it should, it’s worth getting a proper look at it. Drop us a message to see how we can help.

That’s the distinction most people don’t know to look for.

A plan says: your back hurts, here are exercises for your back. A system asks why your back is under that load — and looks at everything that shapes it. Movement. Recovery. Strength. What’s been building over time.

The plan works while you’re doing it. The system changes what your body is capable of sustaining.

At Hanbury, every client starts with an assessment — not a session. Because the assessment is where you find out whether you’ve been solving the right problem.

Most health plans pick one lane. Nutrition. Or movement. Or sleep. Pick one, work on it, wait for results.

It’s not that any of those things are wrong. It’s that health doesn’t happen in one lane.

Eight slides on why — and what addressing the full picture actually changes.

Relief and resilience aren't the same thing. Most people know this - but most health approaches only ever address one of them.

Here's the difference. And why it matters for anyone who's felt better, then felt it coming back.

The Hanbury approach didn't come from one discipline. It came from asking a better question.

Most health services are built around what a single expert can offer. Physio practices offer physiotherapy. Pilates studios offer Pilates. Recovery facilities offer recovery. Each does it well. None of it connects.

The question we kept coming back to; what would it look like if the right expertise actually worked together ..... not as separate services, but as one coordinated plan?

That question is Hanbury.

Our experts dont hand clients off to each other. They share a picture. The physiotherapist knows what's happening in the reformer sessions. The person managing recovery knows what the training load looks like. Everyone is working from the same starting point.

That coordination isn't a feature. It's the reason it works differently.
