My BODY-MIND-UNWIND yoga classes are a fusion of Hatha Yoga postures for strength and flexibility, focus on the breath to calm and give mental clarity, and self myofascial release and neuro-muscular techniques to empower my clients with full movement. Our ability to deal with what life throws at us - on an emotional, physiological and physical level - is hugely influenced by our ability to breathe, and by the way we move, and are, in our bodies. In the BODY-MIND-UNWIND class we begin to unravel these bad habits, whilst being kind to ourselves. BODY-MIND-UNWIND YOGA CLASSES

Foundational Selfcare isn't woo woo or-just for when you have times.. We ALL have moments and times when we don't do what we know will help us to find a little more balance , or foundation breath and focus.. We get highjacked by the hungry lion( ie our nervous system get triggered by a person , situation , memory or whatever! and we rage, rail, get totally pi**ed off .Gentle reminder to self .. check in.. Put your oxygen mask on ! do some foundation zone 1 breathe activate move , create more space in your nervous system capacity.. where we can drop into some Diaphragmatic breathing and orientate to our environment it helps us get out of fight flight and freeze . On Saturday I went on a retreat run by Caroline my fellow Back to Basics workshop host at Tall trees where the focus was Focus on the good and the good will come into Focus .
It's been a very apt reminder for me this week.
And inspired me for the below when going to Art class this week , pleasurable fun, mindful , playful and creative. and a change to Breathe and put my own mask Oxygen mask on! it's not about being good or doing it right it's about just showing up and giving it a go - let go of the perfectionism and put a mark on the page .. just start ..

I'm having a bit of déjà vu moment! we did lots of soft ball rib, spine, chest , Abdomen rolling in my Tozer class this lunchtime .. in fact i teach variations on this in all of my classes .. So in short breath, activate, roll , move .
Classes are a fusion of Yoga , Myofascial mobilisation, breathing mechanics and .. BeActivated.

It's well hot today ! this morning class trying out different self myofascial release tools.
Be activated diaphragm release, Zone 1 activations lying down,Glute activations , hip flexor release activations knee re hab roll out to enhance post knee replacement recovery . Golf activations -- definitely a hybrid class due to the heat in the studio but finally got the air con on so it cooled down ! .. when you're hot and bothered.. do some tongue roll breathing !! as well ..

The most pivotal master class I ever attended, and had the pleasure of assisting at, was Peter Levine's masterclass intensive on depression, healthy aggression, and restoring life force energy.

This class showcased the intelligence of his new traumatology findings and practical work, which is all about the importance of moving out of old survival stresses that have been trapped in a person's nervous system, along with his study of Ida Rolf's work, plus the works of Wilhelm Reich (especially the pieces on how we may 'armour' and hold immense energy in tight, rigid muscles and how we structure and carry ourselves as a result).
All this to say: when working with and healing depression and other mental dis-orders, we must work with the body and its structures along with the development of safety and capacity at the unconscious level, so that the system can release old stored up fear (traumas).

Peter always said his work is not only 'bottom-up' (meaning body based), but it is both bottom-up and top-down, and I often like to add: and all the in-betweens!
This is why I love bringing in my expertise of The Feldenkrais Method into my unique style of trauma healing work, because it is a perfect blend of high level thinking, along with deep sensory-motor perception. Most importantly, it brings it all into movement. For me, this is actual somatic healing work. ✨🔑

Soon, I'll be opening up a NEW SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) Foundations offering that will run from June 3 - 25. This will be a perfect starting point for working at this holistic bottom-up, top-down, and all the in-betweens, levels!

Last treatment session of the day done ! Marathon runner first thing for pre Edinburgh on Sunday, followed by an 84 year old women for some hip and leg work and diaphragm release and glute muscle activation, followed by a music teacher with planter fasciitis and a wrist and shoulder issue.. Love the variety of clients I see and integrating nervous system eduction and the importance of being able to actually breath in a way that supports you rather then costs more then it should !

So this is one of the reasons why my clients find a session with me effective, the physios I cross refer with often don't have the time to do the more integrated work .. therapeutic alliance so important ..

I remember the meetings you'd have in the kitchen all those years ago and watching you trundle off to planning meetings as the membership grew, hearing about the different sites you were offered some totally unacceptable in the middle of nowhere or out of site to be invisible and fade away or the burden some of the local authorities thought you would all be as older women totally missing the point of what this sort of community your were all striving to build was about not being a burden in later life .. and ones that fell through and the heartbreak and finally you got to move in with Bertie boydog! and had 8 years there before you died . The community continues its care and support to me as your flat changes ownership. Thank you .🙏

First workshop done with Caroline, at the very lovely Tall trees Barn , i'm so grateful
that she invited me to run this with her, we come from different angles and complement each other this back to basics workshop went far to quickly, and we will review when she comes back from holiday, it was a new experience for all of them as an introduction to self myofascial release using balls, to improve brain body connection and learning how to connect to some very foundational practices of muscle activation for diaphragm, Psoas, and glutes to Breathe, move and create more space and capacity for more nervous system regulation.. and a deeper Somatic Yoga practice, and not pushing through or hacking anything by force !
More picks to follow..
A Take away comment from one of the participants was an ahha moment when she said I resonated when you said most people don't need more resilience most people need more capacity and flexibility in their nervous system response .
That only comes from knowing where you now ie what's your baseline and how and where are you breathing ... so the just breathe logo below is actually missing an important component.. if you have a query or question feel free to reach out . 😊
