we begin elsewhere.

Not with ink.
Not with design sheets.
Not with rushing to “pick something”.

But with Shamanic journeying. As a Shamanic Priestess, these practices are so central to my work.

Each woman entering a Skin Story Tattoo Journey enjoys a live guided shamanic meditation before her retreat day.

A space to soften beneath the noise of the mind.
To listen.
To descend inward.
To begin meeting the symbol waiting beneath the surface.

Sometimes it arrives clearly.
Sometimes in fragments.
An animal.
A shape.
A feeling.
A memory.
A whisper from the body.

I wanted women to feel held.

To arrive and exhale.

To feel the nervous system soften before the process even begins.

So these journeys are intentionally created more like retreat space than appointments.

Tea brewing.
Candles lit.
Conversation unfolding slowly.
Blankets.
Breath.
Symbolism.
Sacred pause.

A full-bodied experience where the tattoo becomes woven into ritual and remembrance.

Sometimes women come to me saying:
“I don’t know exactly what I want yet…”

And honestly?

That is often the most powerful place to begin.

Because the deepest symbols are rarely created only by the mind.

They emerge through memory.
Dreams.
Emotion.
Body sensation.
Life transitions.
Fragments that slowly begin weaving themselves together.

Part of this work is listening carefully enough for the symbol beneath the surface to reveal itself.

This is why these journeys are collaborative.
Slow.
Personal.

No two are ever the same.

There is something profoundly different about being tattooed slowly.

Hand poke asks us to soften into presence.

There is no loud machine filling the room.
No urgency.
No rushing the process.

Only breath.
Rhythm.
Stillness.
Intentional mark-making.

For many women, the process itself becomes part of the healing.

A meditation.
A remembering.
A reclamation of safety within the body.

This is why I choose to work this way.

Not because it is fast.
Not because it is easy.
But because it allows space for the nervous system, the symbolism and the experience itself to be honoured fully.

I think many women know when they are approaching a threshold long before they have words for it.

Something begins shedding.

An old identity.
A role.
A relationship.
A way of surviving.

And somewhere in the quiet beneath daily life, the body starts asking for witness.

This is often where the first whisper of a sacred symbol begins.

Not chosen from a catalogue.
Not selected because it “looks nice”.
But uncovered slowly through story, intuition and remembrance.
