With all this gorgeous sunshine, let’s clear up a few common misconceptions…

❌ Myth 1: My moisturiser with SPF is enough.

✅ Fact: It can be, if you’re applying enough of it to achieve the SPF stated on the label. Most people don’t apply moisturiser in the quantity needed, so they may not receive the full SPF protection.

❌ Myth 2: I only need SPF if I’m sunbathing.

✅ Fact: UV rays reach your skin when you’re walking the dog, driving, gardening or watching Wimbledon in the garden.

❌ Myth 3: Once I’ve applied it in the morning, I’m covered all day.

✅ Fact: SPF should be reapplied every two hours when you’re outdoors, especially if you’re sweating or wiping your face.

✅ Fact: Summer is actually one of the best times to use a vitamin C serum.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from environmental stressors, such as UV-induced free radicals and pollution, while your SPF provides your primary protection against UV rays.

They work brilliantly together; not instead of each other.

☀️ That tan comes at a cost…

Most people know sunbeds increase the risk of skin cancer, but many don’t realise they’re also one of the biggest causes of premature skin ageing.

Every session exposes your skin to UV radiation that damages collagen and elastin; the proteins responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth and youthful.

Over time this can lead to:
✨ Fine lines and wrinkles
✨ Loss of firmness
✨ Uneven pigmentation
✨ Dull, dehydrated skin
✨ Broken capillaries
✨ A leathery skin texture

If you’re investing in aesthetic treatments such as anti wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, skin boosters, microneedling or chemical peels, regular sunbed use is working against those results.

Healthy skin responds better to treatments. UV damaged skin has a reduced ability to repair itself and produce collagen, meaning you’re accelerating the ageing process while spending money trying to slow it down.

A tan isn’t a sign of healthy skin; it’s your skin’s response to UV induced damage.
