After having rather more time away than I would have chosen, I can confirm that, yes, I really did miss working in clinic.

It's lovely seeing all of you again, getting my hands back on faces and skin, and generally feeling a bit more like myself.

Being able to do a treatment isn't the same as thinking I should.

I've trained in treatments that I won't recommend to every person who asks for them. And occasionally I'll recommend something completely different from what someone had in mind when they booked.

That's not me being difficult 😂 It's me doing the job you're actually paying me to do.

You're not just paying for the treatment itself. You're paying for my experience and judgement about whether it's suitable for you, whether there's a better option and whether I think it's likely to give you what you're hoping for.

I take that part of my job every bit as seriously as the treatment itself.

So if I ever say, "Actually, I wouldn't do that..." I promise I'll always explain why 🤍

Don't ever worry about offending me with questions

If I'm injecting something into your face, you're absolutely entitled to know what it is, where it's come from and why I'm recommending it.

You can ask about my qualifications. You can ask whether the product is licensed for use in the UK and what happens if you need help afterwards.

You can ask anything!

These aren't awkward questions and a good practitioner won't treat them as though they are.

There have been stories in the news recently that are a sad reminder that we can't simply assume everything happening behind the scenes in aesthetics is as it should be.

I'm always happy to show you what I'm using and explain why I've chosen it for you.

This is the bit I really missed 🤍

Being back in clinic means being back doing what I love, and getting to create lovely results like this again.

There's something very satisfying about seeing the plan you've discussed with someone come together and then getting to look at the before and after side by side.

After a good few weeks away, I'm definitely appreciating this part of my job even more than usual.

And I can't wait to create some more lovely results and share them with you.

Every. Single. Year. 😂

There's something about September that still feels like a fresh start, even when you haven't been anywhere near a classroom for decades.

And this year I think I'm feeling it even more because I'm back in clinic, too. 🤍

Suddenly I want new stationery, an organised diary, and to sort out all the things I've been cheerfully ignoring since about May.

Will the notebook change my life? Almost certainly not.

Will I buy it anyway?

Obviously. 😂

It feels very good to be back, though.

Anyone else get the September reset feeling, or is it just me?

If anyone invents the treatment that does everything, please let me know 😂

Until then, part of my job is being honest about what aesthetic treatments can achieve - and where their limits are.

That doesn't make them any less worthwhile. The right treatment can make a really lovely difference to something that's been bothering you, whether that's your skin, a feature that's changed over time, or simply something you've always wanted to tweak.

But it can't stop you ageing, give you somebody else's face or guarantee the exact result you've saved on Instagram.

And I'd much rather have that conversation before we start than have you expecting something no treatment could realistically deliver.

Because ultimately, a good result isn't just one that looks good. It's one you're genuinely happy with 🤍

But yes, some of the things we deliberately do to the skin to encourage repair and renewal sound fairly questionable when you describe them badly!

That’s why I’m always open to questions (and there are no silly ones) 😘

The treatment did exactly enough 👌

Aesthetic practitioners spend a lot of time thinking about what to add, but good judgement also involves recognising when you've achieved what you set out to do.

Could I add more volume? Possibly. Could we push the result further? Maybe. But that doesn't mean we should.

Part of my expertise is knowing when we've done just enough: when the concern has been addressed, the result works with the rest of the face, and there's no good reason to keep going.

As a natural results advocate, I think knowing when to put the syringe down is just as important as knowing where to put it 🤍

OK, but who is actually reapplying SPF over their makeup? 😂

We all know we should be protecting our skin every day, but the reality is that once you've done your skincare, put your makeup on and left the house, most of us aren't reaching for the sunscreen again.

Which is one of the reasons I really like Clinicare SPF30.
