*What is the one consistent treatment that has worked for managing our own therapist's pain over the years?* Well, let us tell you...

As a therapist, we'd love to say we don't ever get pain but, realistically, we are human and sometimes we get pain too!

Sam, our Occupational Therapist has lived with muscular skeletal pain her whole adult life. Trialling various treatments such as sports massage, acupuncture, ice, heat, rest, pain relief, stretches, osteopathy, chiropractors... you name it. And usually it has some pain relief either partially or temporarily. But, from her experience there is only one thing that consistently reduces her pain for the long term.

And that pain relief only comes when she does one thing...

What is that one thing?

Exercise!! The right exercise!

When Sam got fed up with her back spasming and impacting her life (and work) she sought support off our own in-house specialist physiotherapist, Emily (our Musculo-Skeletal specialist physio) and with her understanding and prescriptive exercise provision, within 3 months, Sam's back stopped spasming and Sam was able to do day to day activities she'd been unable to do in a while.

(Photo of Sam decorating because is was a turning point in her year, of realising she can do now do the things she wanted to, with thanks to Emily!)

🗣Do you get fed up with services that do not communicate with one another? 📋

When we set up our team, one of the aspects we pride ourselves on, is that all our professionals share the SAME NOTES SYSTEM, so communication is fluid.

As a team, many of us have worked together professionally for years and seen one of the benefits of the services we have worked in; joint working, shared goals, multi-disciplinary respect, regular communication and sharing the same notes!

Unfortunately, not all services have this and it can cause big frustrations in healthcare management. Luckily, we don't have this problem and we support:

- Shared goals when needed
- Up to date communications and shared notes access
- Collaborative working, listening to different team member's views and expertise to help manage complex cases
- Internal referrals to avoid big delays

Are you ready to work with us? 🗣

Does your osteoarthritis feel better in summer? You're not imagining it. 🧊➡️☀️

There's actual science behind why joints often ache less in warm weather and flare up in winter. Here's what the research says:

🩺 Barometric pressure & joint expansion
When atmospheric pressure drops (common in cold, stormy weather), tissues in your joint capsule can expand slightly — putting pressure on already-sensitive nerves.

🌡️ Temperature & synovial fluid viscosity
Your joints are lubricated by synovial fluid. Cold temperatures make this fluid thicker and more viscous, increasing stiffness. Warmer temps keep it more fluid, improving range of motion.

💪 More movement = stronger support muscles
Summer brings longer days and better weather for walking, swimming, cycling — all low-impact activities that strengthen the muscles around your joints.

☀️ Vitamin D & inflammation
Sunlight boosts vitamin D synthesis, and low vitamin D is linked to higher inflammatory markers in OA.

The bottom line: Your pain isn't "all in your head." It's physics, biology, and weather.

'Never Give Up Day'

We hadn't heardof this national day until this year, but we quite like it because it sort of represents everything we do here at Reclaim Mobility. Supporting our client's to work on goals which may be hard and may take significant time, energy and perseverence.

The day is about .. ' .. the spirit of perseverance, resilience and determination, encouraging people around the world to keep pursuing their goals, supporting their loved ones and standing firm in the face of adversity. It is both a personal celebration and a global movement, recognising the strength it takes to overcome challenges in all areas of life.' https://nevergiveupday.com/

What personal struggles have you had to deal with but have not given up on?

Summer isn't just heatwaves and ice cream. There's a quieter story happening in the background.

When temperatures climb above 25°C (77°F), hospital admissions for elderly and disabled people start rising — often before the official heat warnings even go out. It's not just heatstroke. The biggest spikes are in:

🫀Cardiovascular events — hearts work harder to cool the body, and blood vessels dilate, which can strain existing conditions.
🫁Respiratory distress — hot air traps pollutants, and many older adults or people with lung conditions can't thermoregulate as well.
🚶🏼‍♀️Falls and fractures — dehydration and electrolyte shifts cause dizziness, and that leads to more ambulance callouts for falls at home.
💊Medication complications — diuretics, beta-blockers, and antihistamines all interact with heat in ways that aren't always obvious until someone collapses.

One UK study found that ambulance callouts for over-65s rise by roughly 10% for every 2°C above a local threshold — and the threshold is different depending on where you live. Bodies acclimatised to cooler climates struggle sooner.

The fascinating (and sobering) part? Many of these admissions are avoidable with small interventions — checking on neighbours, keeping rooms shaded, knowing which meds increase heat sensitivity.

☀️ Check on your loved ones. Stay hydrated. Stay cool.
