I’ve been really enjoying working with Blue Lotus lately, my journey started with a beautiful aura mist and some dried flowers from Starchild and I wanted to share a little bit about what I’ve come to learn about this flower and its rich spiritual history and ritual.

Blue Lotus, or Nymphaea caerulea, has been associated with ancient Egypt for thousands of years. You can actually see it appearing throughout ancient Egyptian artwork and symbolism.

It was connected with rebirth, renewal, creation and the cycle of life. There’s something so beautiful about that symbolism when you actually watch the flower itself.

When I make Lotus tea, I place the flower into warm water and watch it slowly open up.
Then, once I’ve finished with it, I put the flower outside in my garden as an offering, allow it to dry, then display on my altar.

I love that little ritual because it feels like a continuation of the relationship with the plant rather than simply using it and throwing it away.

Blue Lotus has also been associated with ritual and altered states of consciousness in ancient Egypt. Researchers are still investigating exactly how it was used, but we know the flower had a significant place in Egyptian religious and funerary imagery.
There’s actually some fascinating archaeological evidence behind the spiritual associations of Blue Lotus too. In 2024, scientists analysed the residue inside a 2,000 year old Egyptian ritual vessel and found traces of Blue Lotus alongside other plants and fermented ingredients. The researchers believe these plants were deliberately included in a ritual preparation, potentially connected with altered states, dreams and communication with the divine.

Spiritually, Blue Lotus is often associated today with things like:

💙 Meditation and stillness
💙 Intuition and inner knowing
💙 Dreams and the subconscious
💙 Spiritual awakening
💙 Emotional release
💙 Rebirth and transformation
💙 Connecting with the divine

A flower that rises from the water, opens itself to the light, and then returns to the earth feels like perfect symbology for the spiritual journey and path to self-actualisation, birth, death and renewal 🪷

It’s now been reduced to ‘release and let go’ 😅
