Today, we want to highlight and thank one of our most loyal supporters, Councillor Darren Byford (former Mayor of Wakefield).

During his tenure from 2024 to 2025, Darren and his husband Peter chose MAG as their official charity.

After experiencing the pure joy and power of music at our 'Big Sing' event, Darren knew he wanted to support our mission. "I’ve gone from ignorance and fear to understanding," Darren shared, reflecting on how his time with MAG shifted his perspective on dementia. "I’ve learned to let people live in the moment they understand."

We are incredibly grateful for Darren’s continued dedication, the awareness he brings to MAG, and every penny raised to support people living with dementia in the Wakefield district.

Thank you Darren and Peter, for being such an important part of our journey! ✨

Join us tomorrow at MAG where we have Richard Coaten and Spectrum.

Richard is a dancer & registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist (RDMP). Richard currently runs a DMP service on an NHS Older People's ward in a Halifax. Richard is passionate about improving the quality of life for people with dementia by focussing on body action and rhythm.

Spectrum Community Health CIC provides quality healthcare for people in vulnerable circumstances and will be around to chat to.

Hi, I’m Baroness Louise Casey. I chair the Independent Commission on Adult Social Care, which will recommend how to reform the adult social care system.

I’ve described dementia as “the elephant in the room”. The condition we all worry about the most, something we know is a huge challenge, and yet, too little has been done to address it for too long.

So, with Alzheimer’s Society, this World Alzheimer’s Day, we’re shining a light on how we’re going to make tackling dementia a priority.

I’ll be coming along on 21 September to answer some of your questions about how we move forward together to tackle the UK’s biggest killer.
