We’re delighted to be working alongside Wakefield Hospice and Wakefield Bus Station to raise awareness of ReUnite and help keep vulnerable people safe.

A huge thank you to Dave Williams, Customer Experience Manager at Wakefield Bus Station, who has been incredibly supportive. He’s helping us promote ReUnite across the bus station, buses, driver networks, schools and local and national businesses, as well as supporting Dementia Friend training for bus drivers.

It’s fantastic to see ReUnite reaching more people and communities. Together, we can help more people get home safely.

This week, we took our MAG visitors on a boat trip in Mirfield with Safe Anchor Trust.

We had a fantastic fun trip along the local Calder & Hebble Navigation, even if the weather wasn’t as kind to us this time round! ☔️ 😃

Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers who make these trips possible for people living with dementia and their carers.

We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks again to the amazing volunteer team at the Safe Anchor Trust.

Safe Anchor Trust is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and they provide their boat trips free of charge to community groups, relying on donations to cover running and maintenance costs.

Coming Home from Hospital? We’re Here to Help.

Being discharged from hospital can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if you’re worried about how you’ll get home or what you’ll find when you arrive.

Our Hospital Transport Support Service provides FREE supported transport for patients aged 50 and over who are being discharged from Pinderfields, Pontefract Hospital or Dewsbury.

🚗 We can:
• Provide transport home from A&E or a hospital ward
• Provide a trained Age UK Wakefield District Support Worker to accompany you
• Es**rt you safely into your home
• Make sure you’re comfortable and settled
• Help with unexpected issues, such as faulty locks or heating problems
• Offer a hot drink or simple meal to help you settle in
• Make sure you’re offered further support if needed

The service operates 7 days a week and is completely FREE for eligible patients.

📋 How do I access the service?
Hospital nursing staff can make a referral for you and will check whether you’re eligible for the service.

If you or someone you know may benefit from this support, please speak to the hospital nursing staff before discharge.

Because getting home from hospital should be about more than just getting through the front door — it’s about making sure you’re safe, comfortable and supported when you get there.

This is to discuss their new ‘Promise to Care campaign’, highlighting the urgent need to improve dementia care.

Dementia UK are pushing to improve health and social care into real change for families affected by dementia.

Right now, the Government is making decisions that could shape the care and support people living with dementia receive for years to come.

Your MP could be one of them.

This is a crucial opportunity to make sure those decisions lead to better, more joined-up care.

It’s still the holiday season, but if you’re back from your travels with any leftover foreign currency—notes or coins, big or small—please consider donating it to us.

We can exchange it and use it to help fund our work.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for your support!

Feel free to drop it off at our centre on a Wednesday or Friday or we can try and arrange collection if you get in touch.

We are 7! 🎉🥳 It’s 7 years today since Jan opened the doors for our first drop-in session.

We’ve come a long way since then but we’ve still got hopes of doing more.
