Burnout is often viewed as a wellness issue.

But it’s also a communication issue.
A leadership issue.
And ultimately, a systems issue.

I recently had the privilege of presenting The Burnout–Conflict Connection to a group of oral surgeons and dental specialists, exploring how stress, capacity, and nervous system state influence communication, performance, leadership, and team dynamics under pressure.

Two feelings can exist at the same time.

You can be grateful… and overwhelmed.
Healing… and still hurting.
Loving someone… and needing distance.

The hardest part isn’t choosing one feeling.
It’s building the capacity to hold both.

That capacity can change the way we move through relationships, stress, conflict, and healing itself.

Building capacity sometimes means learning when not to carry everything alone.
Reaching out for support is not weakness.
It’s part of the process. 🧡

Memorial Day invites us to pause.

To slow down long enough to remember that behind every freedom, every tradition, and every ordinary moment we often move through without thinking… there were human lives sacrificed along the way.

Today is not only about history.
It is about people.

Lives interrupted.
Families forever changed.
Love that continued long after loss.

May today offer space for reflection, gratitude, connection, and perspective.

And may we never lose sight of the humanity behind the sacrifice.

We spend a lot of time thinking about life.

Meanwhile, the moment itself keeps moving.

There’s a difference between observing life and actually participating in it.

You can sit with a friend and miss the connection.
Watch a sunset and miss the peace.
Walk a trail and miss the feeling of your feet hitting the ground.

Not because you weren’t there physically but because your mind never fully arrived.

Presence isn’t about having a perfectly quiet mind. Being present means feeling the experience and not just thinking about it.

Sometimes it’s simply noticing:
I’m here.
I can feel this.
I don’t have to stand outside of my own life.

Fresh air. Sunshine. Waterfalls. Movement. Perspective. And maybe one of the most underrated forms of wellness… friendship.

We talk a lot about stress, healing, and regulation but connection matters too. Shared laughter, conversation, and simply being alongside people who help you feel more like yourself can change your chemistry more than we realize.

Sometimes wellness isn’t about doing more. Sometimes it’s stepping outside, moving your body, and reconnecting with nature, with others, and with yourself.

Your mind can normalize survival for years.

Your body cannot.

Healing isn’t just about pushing through. It’s also about learning to listen to what your system has been trying to communicate all along.

Building awareness of your internal signals and developing the capacity to regulate and respond to them is part of the process.
