Are you practicing movementS, or is Movement a way to know yourself?
As Ido Portal often points out, many "movers" get trapped in a loop: they drill prehab, rehab, and isolated movementS to prepare for something they never actually end up doing.
They collect shapes but then never test them and the real adaptability of their system.
At the end of a day of practice, we decided to run a "wet test": a locomotion improvisation. Neither of us is currently practicing locomotion in our regular Phase. We used it as a diagnostic to see - under pressure - what has been integrated:
🔹 For Agnese: patterns she previously couldn't perform or find coordination in suddenly clicked. The fluidity has evolved in the background without drilling the specific shapes.
🔹 For Stefano: it was a check, one month after knee surgery. Testing what is available and what isn't. Slow tempos, sudden accelerations, sharp changes of direction, and navigating the uncertainties of the knee bearing full body weight in deeply compressed and twisted positions.
We are sophisticated beings that thrive on complexity. Yet, we live in a society that prioritizes comfort to the point of regression. Embracing rich, unpredictable variables isn't about complicating life—it's the only way to evolve and stay adaptive.
The system doesn't lie when you take it out of the comfort zone.
