GO BEYOND TECHNIQUES. DEVELOP CLINICAL EXCELLENCE.

One day. Fully booked.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who responded so enthusiastically to our First Intake of Excellence in Clinical Practice.

Within just one day, all seats for the First Intake were filled.

We were truly humbled by the incredible response from clinicians who believe in continuous learning, deeper clinical reasoning and becoming better practitioners.

And because so many of you asked…

WE’RE OPENING A SECOND INTAKE.

✨ Excellence in Clinical Practice
A Mentorship & Hands-On Intensive from Clinical Reasoning to Holistic Interventions

This 4-day intensive is designed for clinicians who want to go beyond simply learning techniques — and develop a deeper understanding of how to observe, reason, adapt and make meaningful clinical decisions.

Through hands-on learning, mentorship and real clinical experiences, participants will have the opportunity to:

• Strengthen clinical reasoning from assessment to intervention
• Observe and participate in live client sessions
• Explore holistic and strength-based intervention approaches
• Receive guidance and feedback from experienced clinicians
• Learn through small-group mentorship and discussion
• Develop deeper clinical observation and decision-making skills
• Connect and exchange perspectives with clinicians from different backgrounds

Led by internationally recognised clinician and mentor Kim Barthel, together with our experienced clinical facilitators, this intensive brings together clinical knowledge, practical application and mentorship in one immersive learning experience.

This is not just about adding another technique to your toolbox.

It’s about learning to see differently, think deeper and practise with greater clinical confidence.

看见孩子的失控，也看见父母的无助。

最近看到 988 分享的一则报道，标题是：

「自闭症儿子情绪失控，父亲自安抚受伤」

照片里的父亲脸上有明显的伤痕。

很多人看到这样的新闻，第一反应可能是：

「为什么孩子会这样？」
「为什么不阻止他？」
「为什么不顺着孩子一点？」

但作为一名 Pediatric OT，我更想让大家看见的是——

这可能只是一个家庭长期面对的其中一个瞬间。

当一个孩子进入严重的情绪失控（meltdown）时，他可能已经处于非常高的 arousal 状态。

Sensory overload、沟通困难、环境改变、无法预测的事情、需求无法被理解……都可能成为 trigger。

这个时候，孩子并不一定是在「故意不听话」。

他的 nervous system 可能已经进入了 fight / flight。

所以在危机当下，我们首先考虑的应该是：

Safety → Regulation → Communication → Learning

先确保孩子、父母以及周围的人安全。

而不是在孩子已经失控的时候，急着「教训他」或者要求他马上听话。

但也正因为这样，我想说一个我们治疗师在临床上经常面对、却不一定容易被理解的问题。

有时候，治疗师不会完全顺着孩子。

甚至有时候，家长会问：

「他已经这么辛苦了，为什么不能顺着他？」

「他就是一定要这样，为什么不能让他这样？」

「为什么治疗师还要坚持改变？」

我非常理解父母。

因为当孩子崩溃的时候，父母最希望的，就是让孩子赶快舒服一点。

可是，治疗师看的，不只是今天。

我们还会想：

如果孩子每一次遇到困难，都只能按照自己的方式进行呢？

一定要坐固定的位置。
一定要走固定的路线。
一定要按照固定的顺序。
一定要使用固定的东西。
别人不能碰。
环境不能变。
活动不能改变。

一旦改变，就崩溃。

那么，当孩子进入学校、进入社会、长大以后进入工作环境……

这个 rigidity 会不会反过来限制孩子的人生？

所以，当治疗师没有完全顺着孩子的时候，

不一定是因为我们不理解孩子。

有时候，恰恰是因为我们太理解孩子未来可能面对的困难。

我们不是要把孩子训练成「听话」。

我们想帮助孩子慢慢建立的是：

Flexibility
Coping skills
Problem solving
Self-regulation
Tolerance for change

我们希望孩子慢慢学会：

「事情没有按照我的想法发生，
我还是可以继续。」

「我不喜欢这个改变，
但我可以找到方法面对。」

「我现在很生气，
但我可以慢慢让自己回来。」

当然，这绝对不代表治疗师应该硬碰硬。

专业的 intervention 从来不是：

「孩子不愿意，所以我们逼他。」

真正的 clinical reasoning 是不断判断：

现在孩子的 arousal level 是多少？

他现在有能力学习吗？

这个 challenge 对他来说是不是太大？

什么时候应该坚持？

什么时候应该退一步？

什么时候需要先 regulation？

什么时候才适合 introduce change？

我们不是在和孩子的 rigidity 对抗。

我们是在孩子可以承受的范围里，

一点一点地帮助他扩大自己的世界。

所以有时候你看到治疗师没有马上满足孩子的要求，

请不要马上认为：

「治疗师是不是不够温柔？」

「是不是不理解我的孩子？」

也许治疗师正在做的，是一件非常温柔、但不一定马上讨喜的事情：

陪着孩子面对一点点困难，
让他知道——改变虽然不舒服，但我可以做到。

因为我们最终想要的，

不是一个永远只能活在自己规则里的孩子。

而是一个有能力走进真实世界的孩子。

所以，再回到这则新闻。

请不要只看见一个正在失控的自闭症孩子。

也请看见那个被抓伤、被咬伤、被踢伤，却依然努力保护孩子的父亲。

也请看见那些每天在家里经历类似情况，却不知道该怎么办的父母。

更请看见那些在治疗室里，

一次又一次帮助孩子练习 regulation、flexibility 和 coping skills 的治疗师。

理解，不等于纵容。

尊重孩子，也不代表永远顺着孩子。

温柔，也可以有界限。

而真正的专业支持，

不是让孩子永远待在一个「所有事情都必须按照我想要的方式」的世界。

而是陪他慢慢拥有能力：

即使世界没有按照我的方式运行，
我依然可以找到方法，好好生活。

Over the past four Sundays, we witnessed parents and teachers coming together with one common goal—to better understand children and support their handwriting journey with patience, knowledge, and the right strategies.

Thank you for choosing to invest your time in learning and growing with us. The conversations, laughter, hands-on experiences, and shared moments reminded us that when adults learn, children benefit the most.

很多时候，
孩子的行为背后，藏着他们说不出口的困难；
孩子的“做不到”，其实是在向我们求助。
从感觉统合、心理发展，到语言与沟通能力，
我们一起慢慢地，把这些看不见的部分，一点一点看清楚。
