BE STILL!
Earlier this week we spoke about adaptability and how it affects our health.
We discussed the importance of chiropractic care in this process, and how stress decreases our adaptability in the long run.
So what can you do at home to help your body deal with stress?
ZEN-ING OUT
We have all heard the hype around meditation and it's all warranted!
The more consistently we meditate, the longer it takes for anxiety to kick in as the connections of particular neural pathways start loosening.
The medial prefrontal cortex (or "me-center") is the part of the brain that processes information relating to ourselves and our experiences. The neural pathways from bodily sensation and fear centers of the brain, to the MFC, are really strong. For instance - When you are scared, or experience an upsetting situation, it triggers a strong reaction in the "me-center", making you feel fearful or angry.
When we meditate, we weaken these neural connections and over time, react less intensely to situations that might once have activated our "Me-Center". As these connections weaken, we simultaneously strengthen the connection between the part of our brains known for reasoning and our bodily sensation and fear centers. .
This means that next time we experience a scary or upsetting sensations, we can asses them more rationally.
