We don’t just feel things out of nowhere.
Science shows that our emotions are shaped by our self-talk, and our self-talk is shaped by our core beliefs—the deep things we believe about ourselves, others, God and the world.

The Bible has been pointing to this for centuries:
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2
Transformation starts under the surface, in the beliefs we carry.

If your core belief is “I’m not enough,” “I can’t do this”, “I’m failing”, “this is too hard for me”…your inner dialogue will echo that.
If your belief is “God is for me,” “I can learn to do new things”, “I am becoming ….(capable, stronger, confident) your self-talk begins to sound like confidence, peace, and hope.
Our beliefs shape our thoughts… and our thoughts shape our feelings.

That’s why healing often means unpacking what we believe—and updating anything that no longer lines up with God’s truth and new learnings.

A simple way to start:
🟡 Notice a feeling.
🟡 Ask: “What belief is sitting underneath this?” “Is it helping or harming?”
🟡 Hold it up to Scripture.
🟡 Replace it with what God actually says, and then create a new life enhancing belief to live out of.

It’s biblical. It’s scientific. It’s deeply transformational.
Renew your beliefs → renew your thoughts → renew your feelings.

When we learn to rewire the neural pathways in our brain, it isn’t “fake it till you make it”. There’s nothing fake about creating a new state, a new way of being. It’s more about making a conscious choice to “be” different, to choose a more life enhancing state to live out of.

Neuroscience tells us that what we repeatedly do, think, and feel creates neural networks in the brain, which means if we consciously act, think and entertain feelings we want to experience, then we create new neural pathways. The brain changes depending on how we use it. That’s neuroplasticity.

We can leave old unhelpful patterns behind and live out of new ones; we can cast off anxiety, over thinking, rumination, low self esteem, perfectionism, guilt etc and instead put on dignity, self worth, confidence, peace, acceptance etc.

Scripture confirms this, and I paraphrase “with regard to your former way of life, put off your old self, to be made new in the attitude of your minds, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

I love working with my coachees and encouraging them as they embrace life in all its fullness. Jesus promised nothing less.
