Isla's Road to Recovery

Isla's Road to Recovery Diagnosed with breast cancer 32 weeks pregnant. This is my story and a call for others to get checked

Three years ago today was such a pivotal moment in the beginning of my cancer journey. ❤️

We were still cherishing the birth of Freddie and celebrating a very special Father’s Day, being able to have cuddles with him outside the Special Care Nursery at Geelong Hospital was something we’ll never forget.

But the very next day, reality kicked in. As I brushed my hair, a clump came out. I brushed again… and more continued to fall.

I hadn’t completely processed the news that I actually had cancer. But suddenly, I was faced with the reality of a long journey ahead.

At the time, I remember asking myself, How am I going to do this?
I was scared, I was overwhelmed but I kept going.

Looking back today, I think… wow. I am so incredibly proud of that woman. I really did kicked cancer’s butt. 💪❤️

If you know someone who is about to start the journey please share this. ❤️

Yesterday I received a phone call from Lake imaging for my next MRI.

This MRI is a little different to the rest as it will also include a biopsy.

From my previous scans there is an area in my right breast behind the ni**le that the doctors want to investigate further. As its in a bit of a tricky spot the MRI is required to locate the area where they will then take the biopsy.

Pathology results will hopefully take a week or so after that, where i will see my surgeon and oncology team to discuss.

Let's hope for some good news soon.

Our little fighter Freddie has been through a lot in his first 3 years. A happy kid born in a sad time. Even from his very first moment, blocking a pair of glasses from landing in mummy's tummy, Freddie was having a positive impact. His infectious smile and bubbly nature was just what the doctor ordered.

From his time in the Special Care Ward after a tough arrival, to holding his mum's hand in the chemo chair and eventually helping her ring that bell, after the final session, our little Freddie has brought so much joy to our family and everyone who meets him. Even after his own major surgery and not being able to see for a while due to the swelling, that smile was an ever constant.

We look back at August 2023 as an incredibly sad and tough month, with one incredibly bright spot, the arrival of our now 3yo, Freddie Hilton Foy.

Happy Birthday little man 🥳

A little bit of fun tonight!

That time I dressed up as Britney for my chemo session.

Watch until the end and let me know… how did I do?

Three years ago today I began my Road to Recovery. For those new here. I was diagnosed with stage three, triple positive, invasive ductal carcinoma while 32 weeks pregnant. I started my first round of Chemotherapy at 33 weeks pregnant.

This little video was just before I was about to start my treatment. It is quite amazing to look back on how far I have come in those three years.

For those starting their own cancer journey, I know it is going to be incredibly difficult for you but please fight and live with all your might! ❤️

Its been a really tricky week for me this week. I received reassuring news about my scans but devastating news about a close friend.

I am struggling with how to process all of this and so I may be a little quieter, more emotional, or not quite myself for a while. I’m just taking things one day at a time and trying to make space for everything I’m feeling.

Just a quick recap of what's happening tomorrow.

In February I had a breast MRI for my yearly surveillance for breast cancer. Those scans showed two suspicious masses. Thankfully I had a number of other tests and scans after this one that showed no cancer spread.

Tomorrow's scan will hopefully indicate no change which to me means no cancer.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Nearly three years later... 💗

Firstly, I want to welcome all the new followers to my page. Isla's Road to Recovery was created in the hope that by sharing my journey, it might help others facing something similar.

I try my best to be open and honest about the highs, the lows, and everything in between, because if my story can make even one person feel a little less alone, then sharing it is worth it.

For those who are new here, in August 2023 I was diagnosed with breast cancer while I was 32 weeks pregnant.

This video was taken just a few hours before I gave birth to my son at 34 weeks pregnant, only five days after my first chemotherapy treatment. It was a whirlwind few days, and his arrival came much sooner than we had hoped at an extremely risky time in my cancer treatment plan.

Looking back now, that day was incredibly special for so many reasons. (A big one Trevor was at Freddie's birth). It reminds me just how much can change in three years, and how grateful I am to still be here.

Thank you for following along, for your support, and for being part of this journey.
