Sound Care Moments | August at Cambridge Life

Some of the loveliest moments this month came from giving a little back.

For Daffodil Day, our residents got busy baking chocolate chip cookies, lemon cupcakes and sausage rolls, then headed into Cambridge to share their homemade treats with the local community. It was especially lovely to be out giving back again something our residents hadn’t done for a while.

That same spirit carried through HCA Day, with residents preparing raffle gifts and sharing heartfelt words of thanks with the carers who support them each day.

Our Indian staff also brought everyone together for a colourful India Independence Day celebration with food, music, dancing and games. And Beer Day saw the return of a much-loved Happy Hour complete with music, a game of pool and a relaxing drink together.

Giving back, appreciating each other, sharing cultures and simply enjoying good company that was August at Cambridge Life.

Celebrating Our HCAs | Meet Kulbir Singh

This HCA Day, we’re proud to recognise Kulbir Singh from Cambridge Life, a valued member of our team who consistently demonstrates compassion, professionalism and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of our residents.

Kulbir is known for his calm, gentle and caring approach. He takes the time to talk with residents while providing care, helping them feel comfortable, valued and respected. Even during busy shifts, he remains patient and composed, ensuring the quality of his care never changes.

He is equally valued by his colleagues. Kulbir is always willing to lend a hand and has been a supportive buddy to other care staff, generously sharing his knowledge and experience. As a Medication Competent HCA, he also provides valuable support to our Registered Nurses and demonstrates strong clinical awareness in his everyday work.

Kulbir’s professional journey reflects his commitment to continuous learning. Before moving into healthcare support in New Zealand, he had an extensive background in laboratory science, including working as an Analytical Chemist and owning and supervising a medical laboratory in India. He is now continuing to build on that knowledge and experience by pursuing a Master of Health Science (Level 9) here in New Zealand.

Despite his extensive technical and academic background, what stands out most at Cambridge Life is how Kulbir translates his knowledge into compassionate, person-centred care.
He is dependable, proactive and willing to step in wherever support is needed. His positive attitude and strong work ethic contribute not only to the care of our residents but also to a supportive environment for the whole team.

Kulbir, thank you for your dedication, professionalism and the kindness you show our residents and colleagues every day. Your commitment to continuing to learn while giving so much to those around you is something we are very proud to recognise.

It's the little moments that stay with you.

The past month brought plenty of opportunities to catch up, try something new, and enjoy time together at Cambridge Life. One of the highlights was visiting our Sound Care whānau at Te Whare Manaaki o Tamahere, our newest home, where residents shared morning tea, made new friends, and enjoyed each other's company. Back at Cambridge Life, they celebrated Matariki by planting potatoes together, explored the USA from the comfort of home, and brought out their competitive side during our own Commonwealth Games.

It's these shared experiences, friendships, and everyday moments that continue to make Cambridge Life such a special place to call home.
