This was me for a long time! And even when I 'felt fine' it was like the duck swimming on the water, all looks good on the surface but underneath, the little feet are peddling like crazy to keep you afloat!

I have written a blog about it and a bit on the science of how and why and what you can do about it!

like to have some GF oats the day after ive done a bigger distance run. I did a 10k yesterday morning and so trying to eat all the calories I burnt was not the goal. Instead you shoukd continue to fuel well the next day.

I like to do have oats in the mirning, almond butter, real butter and some honey and of course faba bean protein mixes in (tastes a bit gross as its unfavorable but its fine)

I also have hyper reactive HLA-DQ genes.

HLA-DQ receptors trigger an overproduction of inflammatory cytokines (like Interleukin-2) when they misidentify oat proteins as a threat. Even GF ones

The Structural Clone -Oats are naturally free of wheat gluten, but they contain avenin—a protein with a proline- and glutamine-rich amino acid structure that closely mirrors wheat gliadin.

My HLA-DQ receptors act as immune scanners. In sensitive genetic profiles, these receptors bind to avenin peptides and present them directly to T-cells as if they were wheat gluten.

When T-cells lock onto avenin via HLA-DQ presentation, they can hyper-activate, surging inflammatory cytokines and circulating immune signals.

In a system with 98th-percentile FKBP5 stress reactivity, any systemic immune flare signals your body to go into lockdown.

So anything I eat and any exercise I do has to be very methodically thought out and calibrated.

There is also a concept of "load" as well but ill talk about that another day. For now im going to enjoy these oats in my cozy bed

So as I love writing and I love being able to provide truly good sources of information and hopefully humor to women globally ..I am starting a monthly email all about the joys and sheer chaos of this wonderful life transition they call perimenopause...

I will share information on the latest research regarding staying healthy and active and any supplements worth considering as well as interesting information about what happens in our bodies during this time of life (and why it feels so chaotic)

I will also share more about managing your nervous system and fueling if you are an active women going through this stage. It takes a little more tweaking than before if you want to remain up for it and not in recovery for weeks on end.

If this is something you might like...keep eyes open for the link soon...

And P.s it is written by me, not a AI so expect spelling errors and the like LOL

There are many kiwis in NZ but this one is mine.

Oh how these creatures know exactly how to press all our buttons, but then again we know exactly how to push theirs 😅

Walked out around the bays today. Was a pretty day. No wind. Nice to just get some gentle movement and spend time together.

Must a difficult job being such a dapper finch...ha

So this is a delightful cake and the rosemary in the batter is quite lovely.

I do recommend it.

I do also recommend you bake it all the way through (unlike I did) 🤦‍♀️

It serves well and the yogurt icing or frosting n the US makes it very light.

A delish treat with a cup of tea and a friend..or your own company

Fully recognizing how 'shoot from the hip' this quote is but I have also reached a point where the distance between the thought in my brain and the word leaving my mouth is virtually zero....I am plunging ahead LOL

And tell me one women who appreciates being dismissed or "shushed" or shut down who wouldn't feel this way...

The Midlife & Perimenopause Factor

It is the magnificent, rage-fueled clarity that comes with midlife and perimenopause. Hormonally and psychologically, the internal "pleasing glue" that used to make you smooth things over, over-function, and keep the peace is completely evaporating.

And I used to feel bad about it but actually..what I feel worse about is, shrinking, or coddling or needing to cater.

We adore the men in our lives, we do and they are loveable beasts in a 100 ways but they also need to cop on a bit when we hit this phase...

I like the term unhinged and I also like not taking any nonsense and I like that I do not have to over function.

This phase is liberating...and yes sometimes we still need a tiny filter too haha
