I’m privileged to be speaking at Zealandia’s Conservation Kōrero next week on a topic that feels increasingly relevant for many of us.

As climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental uncertainty become more visible in our daily lives, many people are experiencing worry, grief, frustration and overwhelm. Yet these emotions can also reflect something important—our care for the places, species and future generations that matter to us.

In this talk, I’ll explore how resilience, values, psychological flexibility and connection with nature can help us respond to these challenges in a way that is both grounded and hopeful. There may be few better places to have this conversation than Zealandia—a living example of restoration, stewardship and what becomes possible when people come together around a shared vision.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of those who may be concerned about climate change and to help foster a greater sense of resilience, meaning and climate confidence in uncertain times.

What if improving mental health isn’t just about changing what’s happening in our minds—but also changing what’s on our plates?

Join psychiatrist Dr Ivan Lin for Nourishing the Mind, an inspiring workshop exploring the connections between soil health, food quality, gut health, nature and mental wellbeing.

Soil specialist Jacopo Orazi from Radice soil solution will take participants into the hidden world beneath our feet through live soil microscopy, revealing the remarkable microbial life that supports healthy soils and nutrient-dense food.

Chef Johannes Hansen from Kai-Zeit will bring these ideas to life with a cooking demonstration showcasing nourishing, flavourful recipes that support both physical and mental wellbeing.

This unique collaboration brings together mental health, soil health and food to deepen our understanding of the soil–food–health connection, discuss practical strategies to support our wellbeing through everyday food choices and gain fresh inspiration for creating healthier lives and communities.

Spaces are limited—sign up today and be part of this fascinating conversation from soil to society.

Healthy minds begin with healthy foundations — and sometimes those foundations begin in the soil. 🌱

Dr Ivan Lin (Mind and Nature) and Jacopo Orazi (Radice Soil Solutions) are bringing Nourishing the Mind to Tairāwhiti Gisborne on Friday 19 June — a unique collaboration between a medical doctor and a soil agroecologist exploring the links between soil health, nutrient-rich kai, gut health and mental wellbeing.

Endorsed by RNZCGP with 13 CME credits for GPs, this workshop is open to both healthcare professionals and the wider community.

A sincere thank you to Tūranga Health for sponsoring this event and supporting hauora education in Tairāwhiti.

Very grateful to Tūranga Health for sponsoring our upcoming Nourishing the Mind workshop in Gisborne on Friday 19 June, including my flights and accommodation.

It’s a great privilege to collaborate again with Jacopo Orazi from Radice soil solution — bringing together perspectives from psychiatry, nutritional health, soil agroecology and regenerative food systems in a truly interdisciplinary conversation about hauora.

This workshop is part of professional development training for healthcare teams, endorsed by RNZCGP with GPs eligible for 13 CME credits, while also being open to the wider community interested in the connections between soil health, food quality, gut health and mental wellbeing.

Looking forward to a rich day of kōrero, learning, reflection and a live soil microscopy demonstration. Morning tea and lunch provided 🌿

So lovely to have Maureen Howard at Roots of Resilience at Orokonui Ecosanctuary as part of the Wild Dunedin Festival 🌿

Maureen is a well-known voice in Dunedin’s conservation community and the host of Rewilding in Action, and I’m deeply grateful she joined us for the workshop. Hearing her warm feedback and seeing how much she enjoyed the day was genuinely encouraging.

Roots of Resilience was created as a space to explore practical, evidence-informed tools for staying grounded in the face of climate uncertainty — and to practise those skills where they belong: out in nature, surrounded by birdsong and forest air.

Thank you Maureen for your presence, your support and for all the work you do for the natural world šŸ’š

Today at Orokonui Ecosanctuary, we gathered for Roots of Resilience as part of the Wild Dunedin Festival 🌿

A morning of learning, reflection and gentle courage — exploring how to stay grounded in the face of climate uncertainty, and how to respond to difficult emotions with steadiness rather than struggle.

We began indoors with evidence-informed tools for nervous system grounding and emotional resilience, then stepped outside into the sanctuary to practise them in the most fitting classroom of all: nature.

Sitting together in a circle of cabbage trees, surrounded by birdsong, we were reminded that resilience isn’t about feeling nothing… it’s about staying connected to what matters, even when the world feels heavy.

Thank you to everyone who came with open hearts, and thank you to Orokonui Ecosanctuary for holding this space so beautifully.

May we keep our roots deep, our hearts open and our next steps steady šŸ’š
