Blue September raises awareness of Prostate Cancer.

1 in 8 kiwi blokes are diagnoses Prostate Cancer in their lifetime. Men are more likely to develop prostate cancer as they get older. There are a range of symptoms and risk factors.

Men aged 50 and over are recommended to discuss prostate health with their doctor and for men with a known family history of prostate cancer should begin discussions from 40.

Extra protection for our littlest: Free flu vaccines now available for under 5s
From today, all children aged 6 months up to their fifth birthday can get a free influenza (flu) vaccine.
This change comes as flu continues to cause high rates of illness and hospitalisations in young children this season, with children under five experiencing some of the highest rates of flu-related hospital care.
The flu season started later than usual and is expected to continue, so it's not too late to get vaccinated. The current flu vaccine is also a good match for the flu virus circulating most widely this year.
✅ Free for all children aged 6 months to under 5 years, pregnant women, and people aged 65+
✅ Helps protect against serious illness
✅ Helps protect your family and community.
The flu vaccine is also free for many people with certain medical conditions.

Tane and Chiloh’s son, Pheanix, lives with an immune deficiency, which means even small illnesses can quickly become serious.

For their whānau, choosing immunisations is one way to help protect his health and support his everyday life. By sharing their journey, Tane hopes their experience can shed light on what it’s like for a whānau to support someone with a weakened immune system.

Last month we took a moment to celebrate two important days — International Nurses Day (12 May) and International Doctors Day (30 May) — by showing some extra appreciation for the amazing teams across our Primary Health Organisation network clinics.

With winter here and the busy months ahead, we want them to know how much their dedication means to the communities they serve every day.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Aotearoa New Zealand, but it can often be treated successfully when found early. That is why free bowel screening is available through the National Bowel Screening Programme.

The programme is simple and easy for you to use at home. It is offered every two years if you are aged between 58 to 74 and it was recently lowered from 60. You do not need to sign up. If you are eligible, you will automatically be sent a bowel screening kit in the mail around your birthday.

A good way to make sure you receive a kit if you are eligable is to make sure you contact details are up to date with your GP, the kit comes by post.
