Fact Check — Is it Safe?
"Are you electrocuting my brain?"

It’s a common question, and the answer is a definitive NO! 🛑 Neurofeedback is a “read-only” setup.

No electrical current is directed into your body; the system simply reads your EEG activity and reflects it back to you through sounds and visual cues.

Think of it as a mirror for your brainwaves—it shows your brain what it's doing so it can learn to regulate itself more effectively.

The "Smartwatch" for Your Brain

Did you know you can track your brain signals just like you track your heart rate on a smartwatch? ⌚🧠

We’ve all become comfortable monitoring heart rate, VO2 Max, and blood oxygen to improve our fitness.

Neurofeedback takes this technology further by allowing us to measure, track, and train brain-based signals right in a clinical setting or even at home.

It’s about taking active control of your mental health by seeing exactly what your brain is doing in real-time.

🧠 Same situation. Different emotional response. Why?

The frontal lobes play an important role in emotional regulation, motivation, decision-making, and executive functioning.

Ideally, activity across the left and right frontal regions is relatively balanced. When there is significant asymmetry, it may influence how we process emotions and respond to challenges.

Some people with frontal asymmetry may experience:
😟 Increased emotional reactivity
💭 Negative thinking patterns
⚡ Difficulty regulating emotions
📉 Reduced motivation
🧠 Executive functioning challenges such as poor planning, organisation, and task completion

It's important to remember that a QEEG does not diagnose a condition. Rather, it helps us identify patterns of brain activity that may be contributing to the symptoms someone is experiencing.

By understanding these patterns, neurofeedback can be tailored to support healthier brain regulation and more balanced functioning.

Because when it comes to the brain, symptoms are only part of the story.

🧠 Let's demystify neurofeedback.

One of the most common things I hear is:

"It sounds interesting... but what exactly is it?"

Neurofeedback is not mind control.
It's not hypnosis.
And it's not putting electricity into the brain.

Neurofeedback is a form of brain training that uses real-time information about your brain's activity to help it learn more balanced and efficient patterns.

Think of it like a mirror for the brain.

Just as a fitness tracker gives feedback about your body, neurofeedback gives feedback about brain activity, helping the brain make adjustments naturally over time.

It's:
✔️ Non-invasive
✔️ Drug-free
✔️ Evidence-based
✔️ Personalised to the individual

Many people seek neurofeedback to support focus, anxiety, stress, sleep, emotional regulation, learning, and performance.

The goal isn't to change who you are.
The goal is to help your brain function at its best.

🧠 Not all anxiety looks the same on a brain map.

When people think about anxiety, they often imagine a brain that's stuck in overdrive — showing excessive High Beta activity associated with racing thoughts, hypervigilance, and feeling constantly "on."

But that's not the only pattern we see.

Sometimes anxiety is linked to low Alpha activity instead. Alpha brainwaves help us access calm, relaxed states while remaining alert and present. When Alpha activity is reduced, the brain may struggle to switch off, making relaxation feel difficult even when there is no immediate threat.

From the outside, both people may describe:
😰 Anxiety
💭 Overthinking
😴 Sleep difficulties
⚡ Feeling stressed or overwhelmed

But the underlying brain patterns can be very different.

This is why personalised assessment matters.

A QEEG brain map helps us understand how your brain is functioning so that neurofeedback training can be tailored to your unique patterns rather than just your symptoms.

Same symptom. Different brain pattern. Different training approach.

🧠 Two people can have the same symptoms... and very different brain patterns.

Take anxiety, for example.

One person may have a brain that struggles to switch off, showing excessive fast activity.

Another may have difficulty accessing calm, relaxed states.

Both experience anxiety. Both need support. But their brains may benefit from different approaches.

This is why neurofeedback isn't about treating a diagnosis — it's about understanding how your brain is functioning.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing examples of common QEEG brain patterns and what they can look like in everyday life.

You'll learn:
🧠 What different brainwave patterns may mean
⚡ How dysregulation can affect focus, sleep, mood, and stress
🗺️ What a QEEG brain map can reveal
🎯 How neurofeedback can be tailored to the individual

Remember: these examples are educational and not diagnostic. Every brain is unique, which is why a personalised assessment is so valuable.

Follow along and see if any of these patterns sound familiar.

🧠 You’ve met the brainwaves…

Maybe one of them felt very familiar.

✨ Theta
🌿 Alpha

⚡ Beta

But how can you know what’s actually happening in your own brain?

This is where a QEEG Brain Map comes in.

A QEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) is a gentle, non-invasive assessment that measures the brain’s electrical activity — similar to how a heart monitor measures heart activity.

Small sensors are placed on the scalp to record brainwave patterns while you relax quietly.

From there, we can look at:
🧠 Brainwave activity
⚖️ Regulation patterns
🎯 Areas of over- or under-activation
🌙 Patterns linked to sleep, focus, stress and emotional regulation

Think of it as creating a “map” of how your brain is functioning.

This helps us move away from guesswork and toward a more personalised neurofeedback plan designed specifically for your brain and symptoms.

No pain.

No electricity going into the brain.
Just information that helps guide training in a more targeted and meaningful way.

Because every brain is unique — and your treatment should be too.

🧠 Your symptoms may not be random — they may reflect how your brain is functioning right now.

Take this quick quiz and tell me which brainwave felt most like you 👇

💤 Delta = exhausted / poor sleep
✨ Theta = distracted / foggy
🎯 SMR = restless / unfocused
⚡ Beta = low drive / inconsistent focus
🔥 High Beta = anxious / wired / burnt out

The good news? Brain patterns can be trained.

👋 Hi, I’m High Beta.

I show up when your brain feels:
🚨 Alert
⚡ Activated
🛡 Ready to respond

I’m helpful in emergencies…

But when I stay switched on too long, you may feel:
😰 Anxiety
💭 Racing thoughts
😴 Trouble sleeping
😣 Tension
🔥 Burnout

Many stressed brains spend too much time in High Beta.

Your brain was built to respond to danger — not live there.

👋 Hi, I’m Beta.

I help you:
📚 Think clearly
💼 Problem solve
🎯 Focus on tasks
🗣 Communicate
🚗 Stay alert

I’m important for daily functioning.

But if I’m too low:
😵 Low motivation
🌫 Brain fog
📉 Poor focus

If I’m too high:
😣 Stress
⚡ Overthinking
😬 Tension

Balanced Beta = productive thinking.
