After what’s felt like a very intense few months of learning, challenges and SO much growth (in isolation) in India…

It’s been so nice to return home just in time for my birthday, to reunite with my parents and close friends…

On the most gorgeous island I feel so blessed to call home, Phuket 🌴

Somehow the girls and I planned AND executed a spontaneous trip to Koh Samui (another gorgeous, smaller island) in a 24-hour period!

I feel so blessed and grateful to be able to choose how I’d like to live my life

And to live it wholeheartedly, the exact way I want to

Over the past few months I’ve learnt that things don’t always go according to plan, no matter how much you want them to

And when that happens, I believe it’s because there’s something better out there for you

Something you maybe can’t see yet, but you can feel. Maybe that feeling is called having faith

At the end of the day, all we can do is give our whole heart to the actions we believe in (the things we can control), and let go of how it turns out (the things we can’t)

And it’s our duty to keep showing up for ourselves to create the life we want

Because life is quite literally what we make it

One of my teachers used to say

Where attention goes, prana flows

Meaning whatever we put our focus towards, our energy builds to bring it to life

So what we choose to focus on really does become our reality

This year, I’m choosing to pour my heart into everything that makes me feel alive, and to see what I’m actually capable of 🫶

(… and to not give in to temporary distractions or what might seem like ‘shiny objects’ because they feel good in the short term)

We’re building for the long term now

And I’m so excited to see what that brings

Thanks for following along on the journey

Love
Sana

I genuinely can’t believe I spent a quarter of my year in India!

I came here one version of myself and I can say with confidence that I’m leaving as a completely different person

This trip was all about my growth - personally and professionally - and being disciplined about it

I came here purely to learn all that I could, and absorb all there was to absorb in the “Yoga Capital of the World”

And I can happily say that the mission was accomplished even in the face of big challenges along the way 🥹🙏🏽

Here are some of the highlights of my time here, in no particular order 🫶

1. The reason I came to India in the first place, completing my 3-month traditional Hatha yoga course with the best of the best, Ravi ji 🙏🏽✨

2. Trying aerial yoga for the first time

3. Being able to do cool new things with my body as I felt myself getting stronger over time

4. That time I said yes to meeting a stranger from the internet

5. The outcome of meeting that stranger, 750 gorgeous pics 🫰🏽 yoga photography

6. Completing my 2 months Yoga Anatomy and Physiology Course

7. Driving to a temple in the mountains for our certification ceremony

8. This trip wouldn’t have been the same without this lady right here. The only person I said “yes” to when plans were made

9. Traditional thali in the mountains with friends, made with so much love, all you can eat

10. Getting ready for Kirtan night with the gorgeous gal

11. A morning waterfall adventure with friends

12. Just some happy girls soaking it all in

13. Badminton days with the one and only. It felt more like laughing therapy tbh (plus an hour of cardio, great combo!)

14. Trying different yoga classes in the evenings when I had time

15. Felt cute

16. My favorite way to start my mornings, at the best coffee shop in town surrounded by the cutest doggos

17. PT sessions that I got during my time here

18. Another really cool shot from the photoshoot

19. What a gorgeous place to be getting my course certificate

20. A girl who is so damn proud of herself for seeing this journey through when she could’ve easily abandoned her inner calling and chosen comfort and familiarity.

We did it.

🙏🏽✨

Have you ever felt a pull toward something that makes zero logical sense, but feels right in your heart?

A voice that pops up from a deeper place inside you that feels like truth?

For me, it comes in moments when my mind is most still

Maybe in a morning meditation

During a restorative yoga class

Sometimes even during a yoga nidra session

I think it’s because my mind is FINALLY switching off and that allows me to hear a voice that feels like a higher intelligence

My teacher said yesterday how that voice, that inner stirring, that pull you can’t seem to shake, is your permission from God (the universe, the divine, the Creator)

A nudge that says “this is your path”

Back in 2021, mine told me to stay in my yoga teacher training while Phuket was closing its borders due to COVID.

The safe choice was to go back to my job.

BUT I stayed

I cried a lot (as you do in periods of growth 😅)

And it changed my whole life.

The thing is, a lot of us ignore that voice. Because listening can feel really uncomfortable.

So we talk ourselves out of it. And sometimes that door doesn’t open again

So IF that deeper voice within you was leading you down a path that felt scary and uncertain, but also a little exciting

Would you listen?

Sana

Confession: Me, someone who lives on the deeper side of life, has been doing my favorite movement on autopilot for YEARS without fully understanding its deeper, traditional meaning 🙃

How is that possible?

Let’s dive into it.

Traditionally, classical Hatha sun salutations were practiced to invoke the presence of the Lord Sun 🌞

The sun is the source of all energy.
The sun is the soul of all energy.

By practicing sun salutations, we are asking that divine light to illuminate our being - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually

In the old lineages, this was done at sunrise, facing East, as an offering...

A way of saying:

I see the source of life, and I recognize that same source moving through me, and energizing all parts of me ✨

And when we fold forward in this sequence? That’s actually an act of surrender 🙇

Surrendering to the source of life itself

Physically speaking, it is literally my favorite way to warm up my body and bring movement to all the muscles and joints before diving into more challenging postures

But damn, I’m obsessed with the traditional perspective of these movements 💛

Here’s the best part:

Each posture has its own mantra too (perfectly synced up with the audio here actually)

Together they honor 12 different names and attributes of the Lord Sun, which is exactly what turns this whole sequence into a spiritual practice of gratitude and awakening the life force within ⚡️

How cool is that?

Love,
Sana

P.S I’m actually practicing a variation here, with the arms lifted in Ardha Chandrasana (aka half moon posture). Classically, the hands stay on either side of the front heel in a posture called Ashwa Sanchalanasana (aka horse riding posture aka low lunge) 🫶

“Everyone wants to be the yoga teacher. Nobody wants to be the student”👇

That’s what my teacher said to me on my very first day here

I recognize truth in that tbh

The yoga world is getting more diluted, more disconnected from its roots

It’s such an honor to be here and studying under an absolute legend 🤓🧘‍♀️

Where everything is sacred and intentional - just how I like it!

Where the teachings have been passed down for generations.

Where you can feel it’s coming from the heart, not a performance for likes and going viral.

This week he keeps saying the same thing in different ways: there is no shortcut to success

We just keep climbing up the mountain. Toward becoming a great teacher, a great student, a great whatever-it-is-you’re-becoming

Most people hit obstacles on the way and quit. The discipline isn’t there, so we go looking for the quick fix and shortcuts instead

But if we stay on the path - persistently taking the action, over a long period of time, with loving devotion…

Where we surrender ourselves completely in the process and put our trust and faith in the higher forces at play (in yoga this is called ‘ishvara pranidhana’)…

You will get to where you want to go.

I think this applies to everything in life and I think it’s a very beautiful way to think about things ❤️

What do you think, is this too woo-woo for you? 😌

Sana

I feel like I’m the best version of myself when I’m learning, growing and putting myself out there in these uncomfortable situations

And I know that it makes me a WAY better teacher

To be able to teach from a place of inspiration, creativity, and pure love and joy for the gorgeous practice of yoga

For so many people out there the practise is mostly physical

I believe that’s the perfect starting point and it’s how many people find yoga - because they want to feel better in their body

But when you dive deeper into the actual practise and allow yourself to fully immerse, you find out there’s an entire world WITHIN for you to tap into

🌍 It’s a world where you learn about your mind and the same patterns it’s been repeating for decades that’s keeping you stuck

🌍 It’s a world where you face the things that bring you discomfort head on and rise from that

🌍 It’s a world that fine tunes your awareness so you can move through life with more presence in the moment with yourself and your loved ones instead of living in your head 24/7

🌍 It’s a world that teaches you step by step how to move away from a feeling of suffering in your own life so you can feel content and joy everyday

🌍 It’s a practice that feeds your mind a nutritious meal everyday and keeps it healthy away from stress and dis-ease

A practice that, if you surrender to it fully, unlocks parts of you that feel genuine joy, content and bliss

Through this journey I’ve learned that it’s all in there waiting to be accessed

You just have to create that *space* for yourself to actually connect with it

I’ll end this little post with something my teacher said yesterday

“To be a great teacher, first you have to be a great student”

Do you agree? ❤️

Love,
Sana

Turns out the least flexible person in the room had the most to learn from this practice… just not in the way I expected

More on this soon 👀

Confession: I’ve been so deep in my own head about what “showing up” is even supposed to look like anymore

I’ve been a bit lost in the noise of the online world and other people’s opinions

And I think along the way I started to feel disconnected from my own voice.

Thinking that maybe it’s not as good as all the perfect AI content + perfectly scripted reels we see out there nowadays

So I’ve actually spent a lot of time by myself this past month, connecting to the stuff that always lit me up:

🌿 Studying yogic philosophy with my teachers from India

🚶‍♀️ Starting my mornings from home and walking for 90 mins to 2 hours on my walking pad while doing the above, instead of heading straight out for my morning beach walk

🧘‍♀️ Having a morning yoga and meditation practice

Trying to reconnect with what it is that actually matters to me and what I want to share

I don’t have this all figured out. I’m still introspecting, still reevaluating, still very much in it.

But I decided today is as good a day as any to show up even if it’s messy

Goal: let the real stuff lead again, instead of the algorithm

And at the same time, I’m building something in the background that actually stems from why this is important to me, and my real why for wanting to share yoga

So that has been exciting!

Looking forward to sharing more with you as the days go on 💞

Love,
Sana

Another amazing women’s retreat in the bag and I honestly don’t have the words yet 💚

I was asked what my top moments were so I’ve been sitting with that question and here’s what keeps coming back to me.

In no particular order.

👯‍♀️ Hearing the women talk to each other before it even began. the initial pre-retreat introductions. a bit apprehensive, uncertain, nervous energy in the room. I love that bit. because I love watching how quickly it changes

🌝 Going to bed at 8.30 every night and lying there hearing laughter from the common area. every single night

🎨 The way the room went SO quiet during our expressive art workshop. everyone channeling a deeper part of themselves. so focused, so present. there was something so sacred in that silence

🌀 A hip releasing sequence I learned in India bringing someone to tears (just as it did me when I first experienced it)… as something that had been trapped just... let go. I love witnessing that kind of deep release we didn’t know we needed. it’s the best kind

🪬 The opening ceremony where 10 strangers shared their stories out loud to people they’d just met minutes before. the vulnerability, openness and trust always gets me

🥹 And then the closing ceremony where those same strangers leaving as sisters. I can’t explain how it happens. I just know it happens every time. one of the ladies even said “for the first time in my life I feel like I have sisters” 😭

⚡️The chanting. every day. hearing the vibrations get deeper and more resonant as the days went on. watching how everyone felt the depth of these ancient words and sounds 🙏🏽

💚 And of course, the moments of release that came for every single woman, at different times, in different ways. a breath, a posture, a conversation. and when it came, the tears came with it. The good kind

👯‍♀️ And as always, the connection between the women

People keep telling me my retreats seem to attract a special group of ladies. and I don’t know how to explain it. But it does

So I guess thank you (again) to the algorithm for showing my retreat to all the right ladies 😂🙏🏽

Grateful doesn’t even cover it ✨🪄

See you at the next one

Love,
Sana
