What we say, how we say it, and our nonverbal communication through body language, email, and text have a profound impact on our daily stress and relationships, fracturing harmony at home and work.
How to flip the script:
1. Manage emotions through mindfulness, breathing, the "purposeful pause", and other stress management techniques- exercise, sleep, and whole-food nutrition.
2. Instead of assumptions, ask questions. Be curious.
3. Be aware of your stress; step away, take a break, and if it's the other person's stress affecting you, build your buffer and try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Walk away and leave the situation if possible and/or needed.
4. Just being aware of mirror neurons means you can de-escalate by lowering your
tone, uncrossing your arms, relaxing your stance and facial muscles.
5. Be humble. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"
