What changes when exercise is built to fit the person?

Adaptive exercise can improve strength, balance, and mobility, making everyday tasks more manageable and supporting greater independence. The CDC reports that adults with disabilities who are physically active are less likely to develop chronic diseases than those who are inactive.

The benefits go beyond physical health. Research has linked adaptive fitness programs to increased self-confidence, greater autonomy, and fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety.

At Disability Guerrillas, we know inclusive exercise spaces can strengthen well-being, reduce isolation, and build community. What has adaptive exercise meant for you or someone you know?

An injury may change how you move—but it doesn’t have to change who you are.

For many athletes with disabilities, adaptive sports aren’t about getting back to who they were. They’re about continuing the journey with new tools, new perspectives, and the same passion.

Sport builds confidence, community, and purpose. And with the right opportunities, there doesn’t have to be an ending, just a new beginning.

Movement doesn’t stop. It evolves. 💙
