Sometimes we call it sacrifice when it’s actually self-abandonment.

We convince ourselves we have to keep waiting.

For our family.

For our spouse.

For our children.

For society’s expectations.

For the version of us everyone else feels comfortable with.

And somewhere along the way, we become so committed to protecting everyone else that we stop protecting the woman inside of us.

But you were not created simply to survive your responsibilities.

You are allowed to want more.

You are allowed to evolve.

You are allowed to choose a life that feels like yours.

Because there is a difference between loving people deeply and losing yourself completely.

Your life matters too.

And choosing yourself does not make you selfish.

Sometimes, it is the most honest form of healing.

What if the challenge isn’t a sign to stop, but an invitation to pause?

We all face difficult seasons. But when life becomes heavier, more complicated, or more uncertain, perhaps the answer isn’t always to push harder.

Sometimes, it’s time to sit still.

To reflect.

To ask yourself:

What is this season trying to teach me?
What am I being called to release?
Am I still moving in alignment with where I’m supposed to be going?

Not every obstacle means you are on the wrong path. Sometimes, the obstacle creates the space for you to become more intentional about the path you’re on.

I’ve learned that reflection is not weakness. It is wisdom.

And I remain deeply grateful for the people who have walked beside me through every season, my husband, my family, my veteran sisters, my friends, and everyone who has supported me from day one.

Sometimes, the greatest blessing in a challenging season is realizing you were never walking through it alone.

Pause. Reflect. Realign. Keep going.

What if the pattern isn’t the problem, what if it’s the invitation to pause?

Sometimes we change the job, the relationship, the city, the circle… only to find ourselves facing the same feelings again.

Different circumstances.
Same exhaustion.
Different person.
Same wound.

And eventually, we have to stop asking, “Why does this keep happening to me?” and become still enough to ask, “What is this trying to teach me?”

Surrender is not giving up.

It is releasing the need to control the answer long enough to receive it.

Sometimes clarity doesn’t come from doing more.

It comes from becoming still enough to hear what your life has been trying to tell you.

The pattern may continue until you are willing to pause, listen, and choose differently.

Sometimes the environment is the reason you feel exhausted.

You can be doing the inner work, praying, healing, growing—and still feel depleted if you remain surrounded by constant negativity, crisis, criticism, or people who refuse to honor who you are becoming.

Not every environment is designed for your growth.

And not everyone should have unlimited access to you.

Healing also means becoming intentional about where you place yourself.

Choose spaces where you can exhale.

Where you are encouraged to grow, but also given permission to rest.

Where authenticity is welcomed instead of criticized.

Where people celebrate your evolution rather than making you feel guilty for changing.

You don’t need to wear a mask to belong.

The right environment won’t require you to shrink to feel accepted.

Sometimes protecting your peace isn’t about becoming stronger.

It’s about finally choosing environments where you don’t have to be strong all the time.

Your environment should not constantly drain the life out of you. It should create room for you to live fully.

08/26/2026

Healing isn’t a straight line.

Sometimes you take four steps forward.
Sometimes you take one step back.
Sometimes you climb six steps—and then life happens.

And that doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It means you’re human.

It can feel easier to hide than to be vulnerable. To stay silent than to revisit the emotions, shame, grief, and pain you’ve carried.

But healing was never about reaching a place where nothing hurts again.

It’s about learning that even when life knocks you backward, you can still choose to rise.

Give yourself grace for the steps backward.

You’re still moving.

And that counts.

Sometimes, the pain is not the end of your story. It is part of what gives your story purpose.

There are moments when life asks more of us than we believe we have left to give.

You show up for your family. You carry responsibilities. You keep moving through disappointment, loss, uncertainty, and change.

And eventually, you find yourself asking, “God, how much more? I have already been through too much. I don’t know if I can do this again.”

I understand that feeling.

But one of the deepest lessons I have learned is that pain does not always arrive to destroy us. Sometimes, it reveals something within us that we could not have discovered any other way.

It can deepen our compassion.

Strengthen our faith.

Change our perspective.

Give us language for someone else’s pain.

And sometimes, the very experience we desperately wish we could erase becomes the experience that equips us to help someone else survive theirs.

That does not mean we have to romanticize pain. Pain hurts. Some seasons break our hearts. Some experiences leave scars.

But even in the pain, there can be purpose.

So if you are in a season where you are wondering how you will keep going, remember this:

You do not have to understand the purpose of the pain while you are still walking through it.

Give yourself permission to grieve. Give yourself permission to rest. Give yourself permission to say, “I don’t know how I’m going to do this.”

And then, one day at a time, keep going.

Because sometimes the purpose is not revealed in the moment we experience the pain.

Sometimes, we discover it when we look back and realize:

“I survived what I thought would destroy me—and now my story is helping someone else believe they can survive too.”

Sometimes the pattern is the message.

You change the job, but somehow find yourself experiencing the same frustration.

You enter a new relationship, but somehow encounter the same emotional wounds.

You move to a new environment, but the same struggles seem to follow you.

At some point, we have to become willing to stop asking, “Why does this keep happening to me?” and begin asking, “What is this experience trying to show me?”

Because changing the circumstances does not always change the pattern.

Sometimes, what needs to change is within us.

And that requires something many of us resist: stillness.

Not another distraction.
Not another achievement.
Not another person to tell us what to do.

Stillness.

The kind of stillness where we become quiet enough to hear the answers we have been avoiding.

Where we can ask ourselves:

What am I repeatedly choosing?
What am I tolerating?
What am I afraid to acknowledge?
What part of me needs healing?
What am I being invited to learn?

Surrender is not giving up.

Sometimes surrender is finally releasing the need to control the outcome long enough to receive the clarity we need.

Perhaps the breakthrough isn’t in finding another job, another relationship, another strategy, or another version of yourself.

Perhaps the breakthrough begins when you become still enough to understand why you keep recreating the same experience—and courageous enough to choose differently.

The answer may already be within you.

You may simply need enough stillness to hear it.

Sometimes you have to lose the identity you built to discover the person you truly are.

In 2020, I experienced a near-death medical crisis that forced me to confront a truth I had been too busy, too strong, and too mission-focused to see.

From the outside, my life looked successful. I was an active-duty military leader, married, living in the home we dreamed of, with the career, accomplishments, and life many people would consider the definition of success.

But beneath the uniform, I was struggling.

When I could no longer care for myself after deployment, everything I thought I knew about who I was began to unravel.

The uniform had taught me how to be mission-ready.

My survival had taught me how to keep going.

But neither had taught me how to simply be Malaysia.

And when I finally fell physically, mentally, and emotionally, I was forced to look at the childhood traumas, experiences, and identities I had carried for years.

That was the beginning of a different kind of journey.

Not toward becoming stronger.

But toward becoming whole.

Sometimes the crisis isn’t the end of your story.

Sometimes it is the moment you finally meet yourself.

Your future is being shaped by what you choose to invest in today.

Invest in your personal growth.

Invest in the books that expand your thinking. The experiences that stretch you. The healing that frees you. The people who challenge you to become better. The courage to step beyond what is familiar.

Because the life you desire will require a version of you who is prepared to receive it.

You don’t have to have everything figured out today. You simply have to be willing to grow into the person who can carry what you’ve been praying for.

Your next chapter begins with the choices you make now.

Choose growth. Choose healing. Choose yourself.

Grief has taught me that some days, simply getting up and choosing to live fully is an act of courage. 🤍

Losing my dad has changed me in ways I’m still learning to understand. There are moments when the sadness feels incredibly heavy, and moments when a memory brings the biggest smile to my face.

But I’m learning something about grief: I don’t have to stop living because I’m grieving.

Every morning is another opportunity to reinvent myself. To honor the woman I’ve been, embrace the woman I’m becoming, and give myself permission to experience joy—even while I miss him.

So today?

I got dressed.
I showed up.
I chose joy.
I chose ME.

And apparently, I also chose to channel a little 90s FINE. 😏🔥

Because healing doesn’t always look like tears and quiet moments. Sometimes healing looks like putting on the outfit, doing your hair, playing the music that makes you feel good, catching your reflection and remembering…

I’m still here. There is still life to live. And there are still beautiful versions of me I haven’t even met yet.

Daddy, I miss you every single day. 🕊️
And one of the ways I’ll honor you is by continuing to LIVE.

Here’s to grief, growth, reinvention… and being a little 90s fine while doing it. ✨
