Her video started with “these are the worst exercises for a woman over 35” and called pretty much every single basic movement “totally useless” — what are we doing?!

Now, I can kind of understand the sentiment of her video. Having a structured workout plan is super beneficial compared to random movements. But calling out a specific group of women, telling them their workouts are useless, and doing so by using vague claims and misinformation is NOT okay. We all want to trust someone who says they’re a professional.

However… it is NEVER okay to scare and mislead people. Especially if your intent was to instill enough fear so that they buy something from you. I can almost guarantee you that every single move she called useless in her video is absolutely included in the program she sells.

Fear mongering women into buying your workout program or your products or whatever it is that makes you money, is a practice I don’t tolerate, and you shouldn’t either.

You know exactly the sneeze I’m talking about 😅 That’s your cue.
No shame, we only do solutions here. And no, it’s not “just the way it is now” for ANY reason.

Your pelvic floor is a muscle, let me show you the right way to exercise it (please, not just kegels).

Why did anyone ever think that naming medical conditions with insults was a good idea?? If I was diagnosed with “Senile Vaginitis” I wouldn’t wanna talk about it either! Thankful that ISSWSH and The Menopause Society rallied to change the name to GSM because when something sounds as horrific as calling your vuIva “senile”, you definitely don’t want to bring it up. Probably part of why so many instances of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause were never reported, and why “it’s just what happens with age” is accepted as an excuse to deny care.

Anyway, GSM and pelvic floor dysfunction overlap and often occur in tandem. Vaginal estrogen and pelvic floor physical therapy used together will address both the estrogen-deficient tissues and muscles. One won’t work for the other and vise versa. Treat both sides, your vuIva deserves it.

If “Senile Vaginitis” were still the official term for GSM, would you have brought it up to your doctor??

Pelvic floor physical therapy is officially recognized as prevention and treatment for GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause)! Not only that, but Genitourinary Syndrome of Lactation (GSL) — which causes relatively similar symptoms to GSM, except it affects breastfeeding women — can be treated using vaginal estrogen and pelvic floor PT. This is incredible news!

Breastfeeding increases prolactin, which suppresses ovarian activity and can lower estrogen and androgen levels. Peri/menopause causes estrogen decline, which can bring on GSM. Both have symptoms like vaginal dryness, pain with in*******se, vuIvar irritation and burning, decreased arousal and sensation, urinary incontinence, and urinary urgency.

The massive hormonal shifts can affect both vuIvar tissues and pelvic floor muscles in both GSM and GSL so addressing both (when appropriate) using vaginal estrogen and pelvic floor physical therapy can make a world of a difference in how you feel and function.

Estrogen decline affects your entire body, but notably your vuIva and pelvic floor. Your entire body is covered in estrogen receptors, so when those receptors stop receiving estrogen, they start to riot.

GSM, or Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, is common and nothing to be embarrassed about. Talk to a specialist, get the vaginal estrogen, and schedule the pelvic floor physical therapy appointment! Yes, even if you’re not experiencing this, treatment is possible but prevention is key!

Of course working out will strengthen your core and back muscles, but what about the pelvic floor and diaphragm? Because they all work together as your “Core Canister” you need to make sure you’re incorporating this one thing:

360˚ breath work!
When we take a full deep breath, the diaphragm drops down, abdominals expand, pelvic floor lengthens, and spinal muscles lengthen. When we exhale, they all shorten – with mindful 360˚ breath, these muscles learn to work together and strengthen each other. Think of your core canister like the 4 walls of a room. If one wall is compromised, you lose structural integrity and the other 3 take on extra stress.

Be honest, did you try to 360˚ breathe while reading this? How did it feel! ↓
