Yesterday we celebrated 2 incredible women. Julie, who has been by my side for 9 years, and Sami, who has left an impact in just a few months before heading off to dental school next week. 💓

I am so grateful for both women — who show up every day and raise our team, our patients, and the business up. One thing you MUST know about me is that I LOVE live music and I am a sucker for a good cover band (specifically for anything 90’s or early 2000’s). So when I discovered that our patient is a founding member of I GEEKED OUT!

Their shows are high energy and fun (kinda like our dental practice 🤩) and sometimes they dress up like Jazz Dixie Cups! And when you see rocking out make sure you tell him that he’s got a great smile!!

Change isn’t always easy. For our young patient, cavities caused by excessive soda consumption made change necessary. He was worried because he didn’t know what his smile would look like once we started his rehab. He was worried because he didn’t mind his smile and didn’t like the idea of “cosmetic dentistry”. He was worried because the idea of fixing his teeth was scary and unknown.

I totally understood and respected his feelings. So we talked about it. A lot. We talked about his mom’s desire to help him gain a smile that “looks good and works better” versus the fact that he was “ok” with the smile he had. We talked about treating each tooth singly — some with large tooth-colored fillings and others with necessary crowns — versus treating his mouth as a whole system. And we talked about how his teeth got to where they were and the improvements he had already made to prevent cavities in the future.

Once he decided that treating his smile as a whole system was the best option for him, I reassured him that I would honor any changes he would want to make to the shape and symmetry of his new teeth. I explained that the provisional stage (pictured here) not only allows us to test drive the bite, but also the look before committing to final porcelain. For him, this was very comforting — and I’m sure it would be for many others who are in need of major dentistry. Which is why I’m sharing this story here. To demystify the process. To bring to light the human factor involved in designing smiles. To share the benefits of functional dentistry. And to share our patient’s immediate reaction to his provisionals…

He freaking loved them.

I’m still trying to convince him to let me share his full face photos 😅 But trust me when I say that this kid (young man but I’m old!) looks so so so good! And, above all, confident! And healthy! And happy!!!! And his mom is happy too — knowing that this is a gift that will impact his life as he takes on adulthood with a healthy smile. 💓

We said a bittersweet farewell to Audrey on Friday as she sets off on her next great calling — to pursue her career as a birth worker at a local birthing center. ✨ Words cannot fully express the pride I have for this woman who had a dream and went for it!

Over the past (nearly) 5 years Audrey has helped strengthen our scheduling practices and had our back during the pandemic when things got chaotic — the need to reschedule and reach out to patients was at an all time high. She has been our resident DJ and plant mom. We will miss her s***k and her smile! 💗

Over the past couple of years Audrey has been pursuing her education as a birth worker and it was always so good to see how energized she was after every birth she attended to. I know that taking a leap into something new can be scary, but I also know that she will shine bright in this path. ✨ Best of luck AGB!

Our muffin lady brought her stud muffin. 💓 If you’ve missed our past posts, Diane and Scott are some of the nicest humans we have have met and we are truly blessed to have them as part of our dental family. (And, PS, Diane bakes the best muffins in the universe!)

When I set out to build my dental practice, I wanted to not only build my reputation as the best comprehensive and cosmetic dentist in the area, but also attract patients that value relationship-based care. That “I Am So Happy To Come Back To The Best Dentist Feeling.” 💓 We get it. Sometimes you fall out of the habit because life happens. Sometimes your insurance changes and you think you have to go somewhere else (news flash: you don’t!). We know there are a number of reasons that dental visits fall from the top of your priority list. It felt so amazing to be reunited with our beautiful patient, Delilah. She was a teenager when she set off for college and fell out of the habit of seeing us. She has been following our practice journey on social media and our reunion felt like no time has passed. It felt like she was truly returning home! Her dental home!
