As another school year comes to a close, this is a great time to celebrate student growth while also preparing for successful transitions ahead. End-of-year O&M planning is an opportunity to reflect on progress, identify skills that need continued support, and prepare students for increased independence over the summer and into the next school year.

As you head into summer, keep these helpful reminders in mind:
*Document effective O&M strategies and student successes
*Reflect on goals you want to achieve next year (community outings, off campus mobility, ect.) and begin a game plan for the beginning of the year.
*Ensure ESY needs and services have been addressed, if applicable
*Share helpful resources and independence ideas with families before the break or during ESY training
*Take time to celebrate progress—small steps often lead to significant growth.

We wish everyone a restful summer break and time to recharge before beginning another year of supporting student independence and mobility.

Do not forget about summer O&M Professional Development Opportunities:

The AER Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Division is excited to announce a new Webinar Series inspired by the recent release of the fourth edition of our

More Kudos to our Remote TVIs who are rocking it!!!!

Our department just met the other day and we had two parents reach out to let us know how appreciative they were of Mrs. TVI's expertise. Both parents expressed they would love to have her working with their child. They expressed that even though she was virtual they felt as if she knew their child and their needs as well as anyone in person. I thought I would pass this along as she has been a great addition to our team!

Transitioning from high school to college can be especially challenging for students with visual impairments. In fact, only about 40% of students with vision impairments who enroll in college go on to complete their degrees. This highlights the importance of beginning transition planning early.
Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TVIs) play a critical role in preparing students by building essential transition skills well before graduation. To support this process, Perkins has developed an excellent resource designed to help students who are blind or have low vision navigate the shift to college successfully.
This resource isn’t just for students—it’s also a valuable tool for parents and educational teams. It encourages a collaborative approach, ensuring everyone involved is equipped to support the student throughout their transition.
Be sure to explore this resource and share it with your students, their families, and your educational teams.

Guidance on how to prepare for life after high school for college aspiring students, their families, educators and vision professionals.

It was just one month ago that NASA made its newest journey around the moon. Did you know that this was made possible, in part, by 11 Deaf individuals in the late 1950s?! A group known as the “Gallaudet Eleven” worked with NASA to test human limits. Due to differences in their vestibular systems (inner ear), they were able to complete tests without experiencing motion sickness.
It is historic moments like these that remind us that our Deaf/Hard of Hearing students are truly cosmic forces. They navigate the world with adaptability, resilience, and strength.

Before NASA could send humans to space, the agency needed to better understand the effects of prolonged weightlessness on the human body. So, in the late

Hi, Olivia,
I just wanted to touch base and give you some positive feedback
on Jen in District. I know having contractors scattered throughout the states is a challenge and you probably don't hear much back from the field, unless there is a complaint. I have worked with Jen for 2 years in County Schools and she has been one of the BEST AIS employees to deal with by far. She has done more for her students with DBVI in the areas of PreETS/VR, Ed. Services and Low Vision.
Jen has been working hard at getting cases opened and families connected in order for them to benefit from the education and transition services. She ALWAYS professional, highly organized and works hard at getting the resources her students need. She is a keeper!!!
All the best,

AIS is anticipating openings for remote TVIs in Connecticut and Massachusetts for the 26-27 school year. We've created two posting specifically for TVIs already licensed in these states. Please let me know if you are interested! We have other fall openings, but we are hoping to find candidates who are already licensed in MA and CT for these two positions.
