Brain health and mental health are deeply connected.
A recent review found that depression, anxiety, and other emotional or behavioral changes are common after encephalitis, a condition that causes inflammation in the brain. Many people continue experiencing these symptoms months or even years after recovering from the illness, highlighting the importance of ongoing mental health care alongside medical treatment. This study is also an important reminder that changes in mood can sometimes have underlying neurological or medical causes.

Vitamin C is best known for supporting the immune system, but emerging research suggests it may also play a role in healthy brain aging. In a study of more than 2,000 older adults, higher vitamin C levels were associated with healthier brain structure and stronger connections in areas involved in memory and attention. While this study doesn't prove that vitamin C prevents cognitive decline, it adds to growing evidence that good nutrition supports lifelong brain health.

Whenever possible, aim to get vitamins and minerals from a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables.

Improving your brain health doesn't have to start with a complete lifestyle makeover.
Small "micro habits"—like taking a five-minute walk, choosing a healthier snack, practicing a few minutes of mindfulness, or calling a friend—may seem insignificant on their own. But over time, these small choices can build momentum toward healthier routines that support lifelong brain health.

Sustainable change often begins with one simple step.

Blood pressure isn’t just about whether it’s high or low—how much it fluctuates may matter, too.
A recent study found that older adults whose blood pressure varied more from one heartbeat to the next showed greater brain shrinkage in regions involved in memory and thinking, along with higher levels of a blood marker associated with nerve cell injury. These findings suggest that blood pressure stability may play an important role in healthy brain aging, even among people whose average blood pressure is well controlled.

More research is needed, but this study reinforces an important message: protecting your cardiovascular health is one of the best ways to support your brain over time. Read more about this research at the link in our bio.

Sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have for supporting brain health—and that includes emotional wellness.

A new study found that adolescents and young adults who caught up on sleep during the weekend had fewer symptoms of depression than those who didn't. While getting enough sleep every night is still the goal, the findings suggest that making up some lost sleep may offer mental health benefits when a busy schedule gets in the way.

The takeaway? Prioritizing healthy sleep habits is one meaningful way to support your mood and overall well-being.
