Memorial Day is more than a day off from work for some. It is the one day that as a nation we highlight, recognize, and honor the men and women who lost their lives in the fight to protect our nation and the ideals of liberty and freedom.

This weekend, pause and remember their names, honor them, and think of the privileges you enjoy today due to the sacrifice they made.

Remember them, honor them, and be safe.

The Georgia Nurses Association is heartbroken by the tragic loss of nurse Ada Doss in Alabama. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire healthcare community grieving this unimaginable loss.

Nurses dedicate their lives to caring for others and should never have to fear for their safety while simply coming to or leaving work. This tragedy is a painful reminder that workplace violence continues to impact healthcare professionals across our nation.

As nurses, we stand together in support of one another and recommit ourselves to advocating for safer environments for all healthcare workers. We honor Ada’s life, her service, and the compassion she brought to her patients and community.

Violence against healthcare workers cannot become something we accept as part of our job.

Please keep her loved ones and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

She holds the distinction of being lululemon's first somatic practitioner Ambassador and speaks nationally on burnout prevention, sustainable performance and the science of regulation.

Introducing Friday's Keynote Speaker Dr. Roy L. Simpson!

Roy L. Simpson, DNP, RN, DPNAP, FAAN, FACMI, is the assistant dean Data Science and professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

Dr. Simpson has been a pioneering force in nursing for more than five decades and stands as a beacon of innovation and leadership in our field. He broke barriers as a male nurse in an era when men were barely visible in our profession.

His success opened doors for others and demonstrated that excellence in nursing leadership has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with clinical expertise, strategic vision, and commitment to patient care.

Roy created entirely new pathways for nursing practice through his establishment of nursing informatics as a recognized clinical specialty. In the early 1990s, he cowrote the scope of practice that established nursing informatics and led the successful petition for ANA certification in 1992.

This achievement created an entirely new career pathway for nurses and positioned our profession at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Today, nurse informaticians serve as Chief Information Officers and lead technology implementation in every major healthcare system.

Meet and learn from Dr. Simpson at The Future of Nursing: Courageous Transformations.

As National Nurses Week comes to an end, we want to leave this recap video of the Nurses Day at the Capitol, which happened on March 11th. Over 400 nurses, nursing students, and supporters of nurses showed up to advocate for our profession and our patients.

Nurses Day at the Capitol was an overwhelming success and a powerful demonstration of the collective voice of nursing in Georgia.

The work continues.
