6-week auditory fact: Hearing starts developing before birth, but the brain’s auditory pathways continue developing rapidly after birth as babies listen and interact with the world around them. Around 6 weeks is when babies begin to respond more intentionally to familiar voices.

Just me over here singing songs and telling stories, trying to get a Bettie smile before maternity leave ends. Me vs. you, Bettie! October 5th is comin’ in hot!

A well-fit and well-functioning hearing aid shows a level of sophistication in someone. It gives of an air of prioritizing health and connection.

Amanda and I were having a conversation on the way home from today’s health fair about how many people came up to us and said:

“I really need to come see you guys…”

“Do they make them smaller these days?”

“I’ve had hearing loss in one ear for 30 years, what can you do about that?”

“I have hearing aids but don’t wear them.”

“My friends have hearing aids and I didn’t even know. It’s time for me to schedule a visit.”

If you see someone out and about and they have to ask “what” or “could you say that again” multiple times (or misunderstand altogether), I promise it’s more noticeable than a hearing aid.

When I see someone with hearing aids I don’t think “Wow, they have a disability,” but rather I think “Wow, they have invested in themselves and their quality of life, good for them and their family.” (…and then I get really close to see what brand they’re wearing… ha ha)

Those of us practicing in the space know better than to promise a “cure” because there isn’t one. Fortunately, there are well-researched management tools and lifestyle considerations to discuss!

One might ask… how many construction cones, rock piles, and pieces of equipment can one stretch of road handle?! The answer: a lot.
