Certified holistic health coach and functional health practitioner, healthy recipe creator, wellness blogger, twin mama, food lover and autoimmune warrior determined to make healthy not feel so damn hard. After being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 22, I spent years dieting, restricting, and spending hundreds of dollars on supplements, all the while feeling stuck and confused as to how to navigate between managing this disease and trying to heal my body. That’s when I started studying nutrition, holistic health and healing and later founded No Rules Nourishment, LLC, to help other people who are struggling just like I did to find a way to heal and feel like themselves again.

Imagine spending five years believing you have MS, only to be told that diagnosis may have been wrong. 😩

But you’re still sick. Still struggling. And now you’re back to not knowing WHY.

That’s what Christina Applegate is facing, and my heart goes out to her.

Her story brings up two things I think we need to talk about more when it comes to chronic illness.

1. You are NOT your diagnosis.

Of course we want answers. A diagnosis can bring validation, treatment options, and finally a name for what you’ve been experiencing.

But sometimes that name becomes so much a part of our identity that we start to see ourselves, and our future, through the lens of that disease.

A diagnosis describes something you’re dealing with. It doesn’t define YOU or everything that’s possible for your health.

2. A diagnosis isn’t the whole story.

And to be clear, we don’t yet know what’s behind Christina’s symptoms. She may not have an autoimmune condition at all.

But her story opens up a bigger conversation about chronic illness, particularly autoimmune disease, where I think we can get so focused on finding the right label that we lose sight of what’s happening underneath it.

MS. Rheumatoid arthritis. Sjögren’s. Hashimoto’s.

Different diseases, different tissues affected, but all involving dysfunction of the immune system.

And while a diagnosis helps tell us WHAT we’re dealing with, it doesn’t necessarily tell us WHY that immune dysfunction developed in the first place.

What’s contributing to it? What else is happening in the body? What can we identify and address?

Those questions matter, too.

And if you’re someone who’s still searching for a diagnosis, not having a name for what you’re experiencing doesn’t mean nothing is wrong. Your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously and appropriately investigated.

We don’t have all the answers when it comes to autoimmune disease. Not even close.

But that doesn’t mean we stop asking questions.

You are not your diagnosis. And your diagnosis is not the whole story.

We need to keep asking WHY.

Fatigue. Feeling cold. Constipation. Hair falling out. Pounds that won’t budge.

When these show up together there’s one thing that comes to mind: the thyroid.

Symptoms are just clues. And sometimes it’s not one big, obvious symptom that’s the tell.

It’s the constellation of seemingly unrelated little things.

And then I often hear:

“But they checked my thyroid. They said it was normal.”

Okay. But what did they actually check? 👀

We’ll talk about that one next….

Follow along if any of this sounds familiar. More on what you need to know about the thyroid coming... 🦋

Not one of these women needed to try harder.

They were already trying.

They were eating “clean.” Working out. Taking the magnesium, fish oil, B12, and probiotic. Maybe cutting out gluten, dairy, sugar, or whatever food they’d most recently been told was the problem.

Some had already worked with multiple practitioners, paid for expensive testing, and accumulated a cabinet full of supplements.

Effort was never the issue.

And that may have been the only thing their cases had in common.

Their symptoms, histories, lives, and needs were completely different. Each needed an up-close, individual look at what was happening in her body—and a clear plan built specifically for her.

There is nothing cookie-cutter about this work because there is nothing cookie-cutter about you.

When you work with me, we start at the beginning: what you’re experiencing, your health history, previous testing, what you’ve already tried, and what is realistic for your life.
You bring your lived experience.

I bring more than 15 years of health coaching experience, functional health training, pattern recognition, past case experience, and years of ongoing study and research.

Then we work together—as true partners in the process.

I listen, connect the dots, explain what I’m seeing, guide you through each step, and adjust the plan as your body and needs change.

We’re thoughtful about testing, too. We carefully select the testing most appropriate for your case and most likely to give us useful direction.

Because we’re not after more data.
We’re after answers.

Answers that bring clarity.
Clarity that gives you direction.
Direction that shows you what to do next.

That’s how we get to these stories: feeling like yourself again, feeling vibrantly alive, being more present with your family, and feeling confident in your health.

Eight women. Eight completely different paths.

Your cholesterol went up. But you haven’t really changed the way you’re eating. 🤔

Before you assume your diet is the problem, there may be another piece worth looking at: your thyroid.

Thyroid hormone plays a role in how your body handles cholesterol. When thyroid function is lower, your liver may not clear LDL from the bloodstream as efficiently, leaving more of it hanging around in the blood.

Does rising cholesterol automatically mean you have a thyroid problem? Absolutely not. There are plenty of reasons cholesterol can change.

But when I see cholesterol creeping up alongside things like fatigue, feeling cold, constipation, hair changes, brain fog, harder workouts/recovery or weight that suddenly isn’t responding the way it used to?

Now I’m curious about the thyroid.

Your labs are clues. Your symptoms are clues. The magic is in looking at how those clues fit together.

I’m digging into thyroid function over the next few weeks, including the signs that are easy to miss, what “normal” thyroid labs really tell us, and what I actually like to see tested.

If any of this sounds familiar, make sure you’re following along. More thyroid talk coming. 🦋

“If you allow yourself to get old, you will.” 💖
— Dolly Parton

After the world lost Dolly, I went down a Dolly rabbit hole and ended up writing an email about something I couldn't stop thinking about:

She made her first-ever rock album at 77 years old.👩🏻‍🎤

Thirty songs. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Steven Tyler, Sting, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Lynyrd Skynyrd…

And it became the highest-charting album of her entire career.

At 77.

Meanwhile, how many of us start telling ourselves decades earlier:

I'm getting old.
My body isn't what it used to be.
I guess this is just what happens at my age.

Aging is real.

Feeling terrible isn't automatically a requirement.

And before we chalk the exhaustion, brain fog, poor recovery, body changes or just generally not feeling like ourselves up to getting older, I think it's worth asking a better question:

Does it have to be?

Because Dolly certainly didn't shrink her life to fit some idea of what 77 was supposed to look like.

She made a freaking rock album.⚡️

And that's a pretty damn good reminder that there may be a whole lot more life available to us than we've been letting ourselves believe.

So I'm sharing the email here too. Swipe through to read. 👉

For the love of Dolly, don't count yourself out early.

You're just getting started. 💖

Minerals are the most underrated thing in health.

The body cannot function without them.
Every process, every reaction in the body requires them.
They’re the spark.
And no spark? No go.

This is why mineral analysis with the Energy Blueprint has become a key part of my functional health coaching practice.

It gives us a view you simply can’t get looking at blood.
Not only about the minerals (and metals) themselves but about every mineral dependent system/process:

👉 metabolism
👉 adrenals
👉 thyroid
👉 hormones
👉 blood sugar
👉 and more

It tells us how your body is coping.
How well is it handling your day to day?
How well is tolerating stress?

It tells us exactly where your body’s at today.
So you can start giving it exactly what it needs to work better (read: *feel* better).

Head to the link in bio to read the full article from Wellness Magazine.

And comment ENERGY and I’ll send you more details on how to get started with the the Energy Blueprint. 🩵
