What if retinal imaging could tell us not only what is happening today, but help predict what may happen next?

Artificial intelligence is opening new possibilities in retina care, from analyzing subtle changes in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) to identifying patterns that may help physicians better understand disease progression and guide treatment decisions.

Miguel A. Busquets, M.D., FACS, of Cincinnati Eye Institute, an EyeCare Partners practice, recently spoke with Ophthalmology Times about how AI is expanding the information available to retina specialists and where the technology may take the field next.

As these tools continue to evolve, the opportunity is not to replace clinical expertise, but to give physicians even more information to support thoughtful, personalized care.

Early detection shapes lifelong outcomes.

In 2025, our network enrolled thousands of pediatric patients in structured myopia management programs, reducing myopia progression by approximately 60% compared to untreated peers.

We also launched the 20/20 Kids Club to reinforce comprehensive pediatric eye care through engagement, education and consistent screening.

During Children’s Eye Health & Safety Month, we highlight the importance of structured prevention strategies and coordinated care pathways in protecting long-term vision.
